When using video studio editing and inserting an M2TS file format in the timeline and start playing, it studders very much and isnt smooth at all.
Same file converted to a MP4 format, it runs smooth.
-- I do have a powerful computer with also a nice video card that is maintained nicely with defrag, scandisk, and deleting temp files.
Is there anything i can do to fix this or can Video Studio developers tak a look into this ?

Is your M2TS file, Blu-Ray, AVCHD?
Previewing your clips in VS, most of the time is not going to be smooth. If the video file format is indeed one of the above, than your system is not very powerful by comparison.
That aside, just keep in mind that Preview Playback is going to provide an idea of what your project will look like. If you want a smooth preview, go to Preferences (File menu>Preferences) and set the playback to High-Quality. With H.Q. preview, VS renders a temp file of your project. VS does not provide H.Q. preview with DVD MPEG-2 Project settings, don't know why, just the way it is. It may or may not be available for the Hi-Def formats such as AVCHD and Blu-Ray...

Unless that is not the system you're currently using. To edit AVCHD or Blu-Ray, you need to be using a top-end Dual-core or better yet a quad-core.Operating System: Windows XP professional
Motherboard:
Graphic Card: Nvidia 7900
Sound Card: on board
Processor: P4 2.4 ghz
Hard Disk Drive: 80 gig IDE
Memory: 2gig

I use Total media capture ( hauppage hd pvr ) external usb capture card.
This software allows me to capture in 3 formats ...( mp4, TS, or M2TS)
As for the preview , i am a beginner on VS and its very important for me that the preview is smooth because thats where im seeing the editing portion when im adding to the timeline unless we can see that elsewhere ?

And for the record, I have a Quad 6600, and X2 tends to play back AVCHD (your .m2ts format) jerkily in many cases. But it tends to depend on the source of the AVCHD. There are still significant variations in the format between camera manufacturers, not only between cameras which use 1920 x 1080p or 1080i, but also of course with camcorders which use smaller AVCHD frame formats (720p) or the new AVCHD Lite format used increasingly in digital still cameras...
As I don't do much AVCHD editing, apart from helping out here and making AVCHD hybrid discs, it doesn't bother me too much. But Trevor's suggestion of using SmartProxy is a good one.
If indeed you do now have a Quad, you might want to change your System button settings which still shows a P4 2.4 GHz which simply cannot even play AVCHD properly, let alone edit it properly...

First, where did your video come from -- a camcorder or digital still camera? If it is the latter, then it is likely to be the AVCHD Lite format I mentioned above, and X2 has great difficulty doing anything with it. If it is from an older camcorder which uses that smaller size format but as normal AVCHD, then my Quad also has difficulties with it. (And a few users with such cameras have similarly reported problems in playback and editing in VS.)
Re VS, have you given the program time to actually produce the proxy files? It takes quite some time, but then everything should play smoothly while editing. And after the edits are finished, you apply them to the original AVCHD. And then play it back in some high def-rated software player such as WinDVD 9 Blu-Ray or PowerDVD 9. Those should play it smoothly, even if VS does not.

Hi Ron, the high quality playback worked worked but when im cutting the video, the quality is reverting back to HIgh Def . It looks like it wont work if i click on CLIPS right underneath the preview window, and it only works when its on PROJECT.Ron P. wrote:Is your M2TS file, Blu-Ray, AVCHD?
