VS9 and VS11 not working after Quicktime update??

Post by stormcab »

Both my Ulead Videostudios were working yesterday, but today when I tried to open either it told me there was a error and if I wanted to report it. Part of the file it said it was sending was

C:\DOCUME~1\JUSTIN~\LOCALS~1\Temp\be66_appcompat.txt

(my name is Justin)

The be66 part was different every time in the error report when I tried to reopen it.

I assume it must have been the Quicktime update as it is too much of a coincidence otherwise that they both don't work. I tried uninstalling Quicktime but it keeps telling me there was a fatal error when trying to reinstall (even though I was trying to remove it??)

I think I have supplied my laptop details, but I am using XP, 1.5GB, Gateway laptop.

Has anyone had a similar issue after a Quicktime update?

Cheers

Hi

Yep, quite a while ago now, I have experienced problems with VS crashing after installing QT 7...I think it was. I uninstalled and re-installed an earlier version, maybe from the VS disc. Affected VS 9 and 10 again I think 10. Things seem to have settled down now and using version 7.6.5. I don¡¦t use QT that much so don¡¦t install I-Tunes.

Though I never had problems with installations.

Also had problems with VS and Adobe Reader V 9, reverted to V7

Other than that I cannot help, never did find the real culprit, but seems to work now.????????????

Done it, managed to uninstall Quicktime...

I went into the program files and deleted the Quicktime folder, then when I went into the program uninstall and uninstalled, it did this time successfully. I have just opened VS11 perfectly now. I will attempt to install an earlier version of Quicktime and see what happens.

You should first Uninstall the program before deleting the folder from the program files, in fact once uninstalled there is no reason to delete the QT folder.

I would delete it and entries in the Registry too. IMHO That gives a complete uninstall

It wouldn't uninstall UNTIL I deleted the folder. I have just installed what I thought was an earlier version from my received files folder, but that is doing it too so I have deleted the folder but not uninstalled and it works fine??? Quicktime is being a major headache not only because of this, but when I try chatting on Facebook I get an error message telling me Quicktime is not installed and I need it to chat??? FFS WTF!

Facebook needs Q.T. installed, but what version? VS at times only throws fits with certain versions of Q.T., which seems to have some dependancies on the O.S. With XP, VS didn't like version 7, but with Vista, it has no problems.

Have you tried going to Q.T. website to download and install an earlier version? QT Player 6.5.2
