vs11 pro all patches - h.264 main output controls inadequate
no way to specify any cropping and no way to specify frame size for outputting in mpg4. the custom frame size button in middle is dimmed out. i know this version came out when h.264-main was kind of new but this is ridiculous. there is no output control. anyone have any workarounds?
You should be able to crop any format (any format that Video Studio can edit).
For conversion to H.264, you can try SUPER (FREE!!!). I've never used that format, but SUPER seems to have lots of options.

i am trying to output native from vs and i cannot specify frame size for h264-main and it is dimmed. i guess it is unavialble since nobody has any suggestions. all that is left is the few options in the dropdown for the frame size. the biggest is 640 x 480 now why the hell would i want that if I am in 16x9 in HD? vs is more than weak in this area, it is dismal.

If you are trying to output high definition H.264, then you should be choosing AVCHD as the output format, not mpeg-4/H.264. AVCHD is of course a specialised form of mpeg-4 using the H.264 codec, but should give you what you are after.
VS11.5+ should be able to do it if, as you say, it is fully patched. (VS11+ fully patched produces VS11.5+. But if you have only the vanilla version of VS 11 without the + sign, then you won't be able to work in AVCHD.)
But you don't give us any information about your system. To be able to produce, and above all play, AVCHD you need at least a decent Core 2 Duo system...
