Thanks for the explanation of the theory. However, I assume you can drag the clips etc from the WML into the timeline but can you copy and paste them to the bespoke libraries that we create? That would be the only use for the WML that can think of. Just saves a whisker loading to the library via the usual File > Insert media route! But then you can right click in a blank space in any library and insert from there, so not much of a saving! We could carry on for ever n this one, I feel and still get nowhere!

Yes you can copy from the Windows Media Libraries, into the respective format libraries. You can not delete any clips in the Windows Media Libraries, or manually load clips into them.

I suppose if you captured your video into your My Videos folder, put your photos in the My Pictures folder and your audio clips in your My Music folder, under the My Documents folder, the Windows Media Library removes the step of manually having to insert them into one of the traditional library folders. There probably is a small group, that do, however I feel the majority use separate internal or external drives. This automated feature is of no value in that case.

What a top heavy system. I tend to take three or four clips of the same thing where I can and just pick out the best one. As External hard drives are relatively chep nowaays never delete the duff clips. Most of them are of horses at the Sanctuary that I support and you never know when a particular clip will come in handy. Never work with animals or children, they say!

As it seems is the case with most things, the people that design it don't use it on a regular basis and, thus, do not realize what is practical and what is not. :?

Not at home right now, what you could try is making those files identified above as "read only". either you will get an error message nagging you to make them writeable or (hopefully) it will resolve the problem.

Good suggestion Steve, however VS is not affected by those settings. I first tried setting them to Read Only. VS still wanted import them. Next I tried hiding them, by setting the properties to Hidden, and setting the Folder Options>View to not show hidden files and folders. VS still sees them and wants to import them.

It's an evil  monster that just will not be defeated..   :x

Go a bit deeper, use the Windows Security Settings rather than just ticking the read only attribute. Set the Deny attributes for Modify and also write.

But then if at some point you wanted, or needed to use some clips you would have to undo all that. I say just avoid using the WML in VS, or do not store any clips in those folders.

Hi

When I changed the folder options to read only, VS tries to import the files only to show an error, you accept this and receive an error for the next. In the case or my audio thats 1300 errors to accept.

The option to tweak my system is a no-no, what I want is the option to tweak VS.

Thanks for the input........

And Jeff, nobody told me NOT to go there, so once you have clicked you are hooked.

That's strange that I did not get errors. VS just proceeded on to insert them. I even dragged one to the timeline to see if it would throw an error, none..

Hi Ron

Sorry i should have said i made the VS_MediaLib_Image.dat file read only, and that does generate 'access denied' error

Done so much on this that I forget what causes what.

Its strange that i doesn't import everything just 2 out of 8 folders, cant see any difference with the folders or content, except that the images were used in VS 10 for slide shows, thats just weird
