[RESOLVED] Unable to smoothly edit AVCHD video 3.8Gb file

Post by konmanos »

I shot my first HD clip on my camera and when I d/loaded it for editing - I realised that it was a one .30minute clip. It made editing difficult - and the video was not smooth - during the editing phase, and when trying to break-up the clip into smaller clips - I was not able to go forward - and backwards smoothly... It was merely impossible.

I was wondering if the fault was due to the one large 30 minute clip?

Now looking back at some of the posts here - it seems that VS ProX2 may be the culprit. Is there a downgrade option - to go back to VS11 and test this out?

How big is the video file?

Maybe faster primary HDD (10K Raptor/SSD) or RAID or updating to Win 7 64 bit?

Even though VS pro is 32 bit app this may help.

Hi

Have you enabled Smart Proxy and can see the proxy files in the Proxy Manager

Trevor - YES - I have and it has made a difference - to the trimming of the video - the first 8 minutes of it - it then returns back to very slow - updating of the images on the editing panel - trimming panel.. where you are not able to fast forward through to the next end point etc.

What I am finding is that I have to wait for some minutes before I can resume again - and then again and then again..

Hang on - just realised that the Smart Proxy Queue Manager - was still working - will let it finish and then report back - to let you know my findings- thanks - looks promising

Well - that certainly made my editing much easier. I enabled the Proxy as suggested by Trevor and I waited for the Queue Manager to finish processing the file, and all was great in editing mode. Just hope that the rest of the project - goes smooth. Thanks once again!

Sorry if you this sounds like I am telling you off - I am not.
You can alter the title by using the Image button on your first post.

The purpose of providing a meaningful title is this.
There are a number of members on the forum who try and help troubleshoot problems - myself included. In the early days of the user forum it was not too difficult to be able to read all of the posts submitted since the last time I (or one of the other troubleshooters) had logged on.

On the Forum Home page at the top right is a link
view posts since last visit In the forums early days this would perhaps range between 10-30 posts. Today however the board has grown in popularity and more products are now catered for including the former Intervideo products before the merger with Ulead.

There have been days when I have logged on to find over 70 new posts since my last visit. It is of course impossible to read each and every one of them and so it is necessary to look at the titles to pick out posts where I feel I am able to offer some worthwhile input.

if you are viewing perhaps the VideoStudio forum and a post is entitled
"VideoStudio" - it doesn't really give you a clue, similarly in the PhotoImpact forum a post entitled [PhotoImpact] is equally as meaningless.

Giving a post a suitable title is a means of helping us to help you.

Smart Proxy

Post by Trevor Andrew »

Hi konmanos

Glad to hear your making progress.

I have yet to progress on to HD so don¡¦t have these problems.
Smart Proxy takes some time to render/create the files, but when done improves editing no end.
At least thats how I understand it.

Good luck with the editing

Unfortunately, the title of the *thread* is set by the OP and thus can only be changed by him...
