What I meant by the fill colour issue was that leaving( what I presume is the default black) fill colour in the cropping box of the crop filter
and not changing that to the same colour as the colour clip which is in the video track even with sim. set to zero was not working for me as it is supposed to.

The only slight problem I had was some of the blue writing didn't stand out too well and I had to pause the video to read it. Other that that it describes the procedure very well.

Well done and thank you.

Hi Ken What colour you set the default background colour or what colour you choose to put in the main video track has no bearing on the chroma key effect of the particular overlay clip/image you are using.
If you choose black as the background colour in the cropping customize window then that is the colour to choose for the chroma key. It helps to make the colour "Clip" in the main video track a bright red or any bright colour. This then shows through when the chroma key takes effect. You can check that is has worked properly. You can always change the colour in the main video track later if you wish.

Looks like you start with screenshots then upload these to VS and add titles etc. I did this and think it might me a tiny bit clearer. Its a very short video but in HD full scrren its not too bad. Let me know what you think

Not sure how it will go for filesize but....

Yes I created mine through screenshots and imported/edited then exported as FLV.

May try one as MPG and see what happens...

This thread has an extra theme that of getting the best out of You Tube. Is it possible to take the You Tube posts and move them to a new Forum? I would like to further this theme with screen captured video clips on You Tube. Shall I just start a new post and as it will be done on VS is this the best place for the new thread?

I go into it knowing that the YouTube quality will never be as good as my original clip. That way I'm not overly disappointed.

With that said, knowing that YouTube will re-encode my video, no matter what type of file I give them, I simply make the highest quality video file I can, while still fitting the size requirements of YouTube. That means an AVI or MPEG-2 file at 8,000 kbps (standard def, of course - I've never uploaded HD).

The resulting YouTube video looks pretty good, IMHO, especially when viewed at YouTube's HQ setting.

It certainly looks good and I agree with producing the best input file and letting You Tube do the rest. However, I am trying to produce a reasonable clip of a screencapture tutorial. I use Cam Studio to produce an AVI file with 1280 x 960 px at 36 secs duration. File size 13mb. I just add a short inline title and save a video file to the same as first video clip. This produces a files size of 25GB yes 25gb. I reduce the bitrate to 1500 kbs and still get a file size of 1.5 GB. I need a final clip of about 4 mins so the files size is going to be astronomical. These AVI files produce an acceptable image on You Tube as the the example that follows but this is straight from the Cam Studio with no editing.

I've tried saving to a mpeg - 2 in VS but the resultant image on You Tube is unreadable.
Any ideas please?

Does it have to be 1280 x 960? How much is the size reduced when you reduce the resolution?

Have reduced it to 720 x 576 an the resultant size is 1.1 GB whereas the original size was 12KB for only 36 seconds. I notice the data rate of the new file is 30390kbps! Can't see where I can edit that. BTW there was no editing in VS. I imported the original to the timeline and went straight to share> create video file > AVI.
I have played the new file in WinDVD 9 and it is very poor. Unlike the original which is perfect. The new one would be unreadable in You Tube!
I think I am going to have to use the "raw" Cam Studio files to get an acceptable result and forget editing them which is a shame as I was thinking of adding a commentary! I can't work the screen and commentate at the same time, my wife can multitask but I'm a failure!
