Split Screen

Hi John

The crop tool has been used to crop to the left and right of the two outside images.

This leaves the black panel on one side, allowing you to drag it off screen.

The middle image can be cropped anywhere as the outside images overlay this image,

The view of the first lady is sample V21 and shes sat on the left of screen.

Well I think I'll take up fishing! My problem is I want to crop a section of the clip from the middle, not just the left hand edge. My overlay clip then has the section of the clip that I want plus a black part to the left and one to the right. These black sections then mask out o/l track one. I need to make the background transparant I think!

Video, Images is no problem I would just use Photoshop!

There are two. One to change the bg color and one "Stationary" Which makes no difference neither checked nor unchecked!

John,
Leave the Fill Color box checked, and use the default black color. Go to the Mask/Chroma-Key dialog, Apply Overlay Options>Chroma Key. Now select the black color and for the Similarity set it to 0. That should remove the black mask placed by the Cropping filter, but yet maintain your Crop.

Well I think I'll take up fishing!

Thank You Ron. Perfect. I tried that but left the Similarity at 70% and lost some of the clip. Didn't think to set it to zero! Thanks

Have now successfully achieved the split screen effect by using Chroma Key but am intrigued as to what checkbox Steve was referring to. Please, Steve put me out of my misery

I think Steve was referring to the one for background color, so you could use the Chroma Key.

I have now succeeded. I have produced a split screen of 3 video clips but it is just as easy to produce any number of clips in any formation. With or without borders of any color. Here's my sample in SD and HD on You Tube:

Could write up my workflow if anyone is interested. This sample should take no more that 10 minutes editing time.

I am trying to get 3 images on the screen as per Steves example.
I have used a height of 100 and a width of 33( thinking one third) for each one when custominsing the filter.When on the screen they are not all the same width and are moving along instead of staying where they were dragged to.Advice please ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Ken

Kenneth,
For the crop filter you need to check Stationary, or right-click on the first keyframe and select Copy/Paste to all.
