How can I remove part of the video (only) but let the audio go on? I have a video file of an expert who during his explanations refers to documents from time to time. I have jpg files of those documents and would like the particular document to be displayed for a few seconds when the expert refers to that document.

Just as your title says, put the JPEGs on an overlay track, so that they overlay the video clip.

When you put your image into the overlay track it will probably appear in a rectangle smaller than the preview screeen. Right click on the image and choose "Fit to screen". For the image size see this link:

Or go to Preferences and choose Fit to Screen as the default.

Hi Uhill
Are you using standard 4:3 or widescreen 16:9
To fill the screen without distorting the image you should use the same aspect ratio as the video frame.
Use 768 x 576px as a minimum.
For widescreen 1024 x 576px
If you intend to use Pan & Zoom then it will be beneficial to increase these sizes.
I generally double them to 2048 x 1152px
For High Definition work your frame size could be 1920px wide.
This would be the smallest image size required,
Again keep the aspect ratio to 16:9 giving you 1920 x 1080 minimum.
