The drive is busy!

I am trying to burn a blueray disc using a LaCie external drive, but
I get the message, "The drive is busy or being used by other
applications...." Curiously, if I use no menu, then I can burn a disc without that message stopping the process. MY OS is Vista.
Can anyone help?

That certainly sounds like a puzzler and I haven't come across a problem like that before on the Web Board. Can I suggest that just before you start the burning process you disconnect the external drive and reconnect it again.

Do you have any other burning software installed on the computer?
Have you checked the Microsoft Windows Error Log

Thanks Steve. What you suggested didn't work. It also scares me to think
I have such a unique problem. Therefore, I am returning the external drive and getting a new HP laptop with a built-in blueray burner, with
fond hopes for less conflicts.

I also have this problem and I use an internal drive so changing your drive I think will not solve the problem
What is happening on my system is when I put a blank disc in the drive to burn to it is starting other programmes in the background so when you come to try to burn a disc with Moviefactory is sees the drive as in use
What I do to overcome the problem on my Windows Vista System is first put the disc in the drive and let it be recognised then use the Ctrl+Alt+delete keys to open the system tools Here you can see which programmes are running You might see Cyberlink or Windows Media is running or something like that to do with DVD or Blu-ray discs
Click to stop these programmes running you may have to experement a bit to see which programme to stopping Moviefactory burning a disc
When I have stopped the programmes which are causing the problem ( there could be more than one ) I open Moviefactory and have no problem with it burning a disc

Thanks Chrish. My problem disappeared when I ditched the separate
BD drive and got an HP laptop with an integrated blueray burner. Now no
more such error message. By the way, when I tried to burn blueray with
that external Lacie burner, there were no other programs running in the
background, none. In fact since my earliest DVD buring days, I always make sure the burning software is the only thing that is on.
In this case, the add-on hardware might have resulted in some incompatibility problem.
