You don't give us much to go on, but the first thing I would check is that your Playback Device (in Preferences) is set for Preview Window.

If that doesn't work make sure your DirectX is up to date (see Sticky at top of forum).

But we also need to know what model your camcorder is. There are, of course, some that you 'capture' from by simply transferring files, and thus would have no preview in any case.

Or are you capturing in real-time e.g. from a mini DV or HDV camcorder?

I guess i forgot to tell you everything. I have a dell dimension 5100. I have a canopus advc-100. I also have a JVC dv camera. I tdoesn't matter which way i go i don't get any preview. I will check again the preferences, but when i did before i can't remember there being an option for preview. I found it now but i put instant playback and preview window in there and it still did not work. Yes i am capturing real time with adv camera.I have also got a program called adobe premiere when i capture in that program i see a preview. I like the editing and titles better in video studio X2 though.

You can, of course, capture your DV video using any program that captures that format. I personally, for instance, don't use Video Studio to capture my DV. Instead, I capture using a small freeware program called WinDV (www.windv.mourek.cz). But you can also use Premiere to capture and simply open the captured files in VS for editing. (Note, however, that Premiere captures Type 2 DV, whereas VS tends to 'prefer' Type 1. I find that when I use Type 2 DV I tend to get the occasional bzzz sound injected every so often.)

Or you can use Windows Movie Maker, for that matter, just making sure you capture in DV format and not in .wmv...
