X2 - "No video capture driver is installed...." Wi

Post by jmone »

I built a new Win7 32-Bit machine for my brother inlaw and convince him to upgrade to X2 (cheap upgrade price at the moment!). Regardless he is still getting the ¡§Either no video capture driver is installed in this system, or no device is connected¡¨ error msg when he goes into the Capture tab. Win7 sees the JVC GR-850 DV Camcorder just fine in both "Devices" and in "Device Mgr".

So far we have tried:
- Changing the Firewire Card for a new one
- Updating the Camera Win7 Driver (was the latest)
- Updating the Firewire Win7 Driver (was the latest)

This camera also works fine on my X2 install (Win7 64-Bit)....

Any ideas?

Thanks
Nathan

Windows has "Windows Movie Maker" built into it.
Try capturing the video with Windows Movie Maker.
You can then import the video into VideoStudio. If windows Movie Maker does not capture it either, then you know you have a hardware or driver problem.

I'm starting to think it is an issue between the VIA based Firewire card and the JVC Camcoder, as:
- JVC Camcorder works on my PC (also a Via chipset but on the M"Board)
- My Canon works on both mine and his PC

Win 7 no longer has movie maker as part of the system.
You have to downlaod the windows live selection of apps to get windows live movie maker, and this currently does not support capture via firewire :(

Windows Movie maker 2.6 is available as a free download as an alternative to Windows Live Movie maker.

I agree, this is a backward step by Microsoft because most users will be unaware of the free download and simply think it has been replaced.
