I had a Microtek Scanmaker 4600 that I used greatly and it worked well with PIX3, and previous versions. Well, I had to go and upgrade to windows 7, and alas now the drivers don't seem to work. Though I do have a lexmark x6570, which was given to me as a present and seems to work pretty good. I don't have the adjustable settings I am use to. And since it is not twain, PI won't recognize it.
Could it be because I use it wirelessly? I have to scan the picture then bring it into PI, still though their program is not that adjustable.
So, now I am looking at a few scanners (Canon, epson).
My understanding it has to be twain for PI to find it, would this be correct?
In looking at some of the scanners, the say usb, but don't necessarily say twain. Most likely this means they are not twain?
I want a reasonalbly price scanner ( I know that is subjective) which I have a little more control over the scan and size, and be able to adjust things, before going into PI? That the interface in PI will work with it.
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.
Bruce

Best thing to do nowadays is get an all in one scanner, printer. These now also let you place SD (and similar) cards into a card reader so you can print photographs even without having a computer!
They are now extremely cheap and sold in supermarkets. Make sure you get one with at least 4 different ink cartridges (black, yellow, cyan, red) and then when one colour runs out you can replace just that one colour.
Modern printer/scanners are USB.

usb - twain compliant
But I don't think USB makes it twain compliant, unless it is because I have it set on wireless?
I have an all in one, but the adjustments for prescanning I don't reallly care for, doesn't give me enough ratios adjustments with size and dpi

I wish :)
Thanks, though I could only wish.
XP were the last ones they put out for thhe
scanmaker 4600. That is usually the way things go though,
you find one you like get accustomed too, and they change to a
new model, and forget the older ones. Though it really isn't that
old. It worked so great with PI.
I have been looking at a few Canon's, have to find out if
they are twain comp.
I guess should put that on the PI wish list, for interface to PI,
rather than just the twain.
thanks, appreciate the help Bruce
