PSP and KPT

Post by verenc »

I've used PSP since Jasc came out with it. Somewhere along the line I discovered KPT, then known as Kai's Power Tools, and have used it as PSP's most powerful set of filters. Alas, when Win XP (I think) came out KPT stopped being so user friendly. I found that I could install it normally, but each time I used a filter I had to reenter the serial number.

When Vista came out, no change. Obviously the problem was tied to Window's method of placing the serial number in the registry. I recently installed Win 7 and the same problem exists.

KPT appears to be a lost child as far as Corel and I really wish that Corel would give it the attantion it deserves. It's a powerful filter and deserves better.

In fact I've had the same thoughts about PSP. It's a great program and deserves an update. I've been using X2 since it came out and I'm anxiously awaiting X3. I just don't care for Corel Paint and Photoshop is just plain too expensive.

Does anyone have any thoughts on KPT or when PSP X3 will come around?

On a positive note, PSP has installed and worked flawlessly since version 2, on every OS I've used including Win 7 Pro.

TIA

If you look around on this board, there have been some recent posts on this very topic. There is some speculation that there is to be no further development of PSP. Who knows? Others are far more informed than I am, so check their comments. I hope it gets updated!!

"... no further development of PSP..."

If that's the case, I wonder why Corel bought PSP; simply to quash competition? When Corel initially bought PSP I thought that it might be to replace the less-capable Paint in the CorelDraw suite, but that was not to be.

Both PSP and KPT have suffered under Corel's ownership. I'd like to see some other company pick up them both.

Technically Corel has been bought...found this article at PCWorld.

Corel produced some good versions of PSP as well as some bad ones for a few years now so it wasn't just to squash the competition. I mean, they completely abandoned PhotoImpact after releasing version X3 of that, so if that was their intention with PSP they would have done so sooner.

However, any suggestions that PSP will or has been discontinued is purely rumor and speculative. Best to avoid it.
