Thanks for this, only thing is that X3 attempts to download/install DVDF7se each time X3 loads then fails as X3 is running (shares the same process tree).

Apart from this, is there DVDF7 Pro available in UK?

So it's failing on downloading DVDMF 7SE? Have you installed Service Pack#1 for VS X3? http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 3525894548

I see that DVD MF7 Pro is still not offered in the UK. When it was first released, it wasn't offered here in the U.S. however around the same time that Corel released the SE version for VS X3 users, it was offered on the US website. I don't know if you would be able to purchase DVDMF7 Pro download version from the U.S. website.

I've always been able to close VS down before any of the templates, or especially before allowing DVD MF to install. I don't have the SE version, since I picked up the Pro version.

Ron - thanks for this.

As X3 boots, it attempts to bring in the update to DVDF7, as the window for the download is behind the X3 splash screen, then can't access the download window to stop or try later option. then it fails to load as X3 is present.

I got the SP1/SP2 files from the support section of corel.co.uk (same as the corel.com site). These, as pointed out (not by Corel though!) are for the Pro version, which isn't available on the .co.uk site (so why are they there?)

Will take a look at the .com site and see if I can download the pro version.

Is the pro version a lot better then the 2010 DVDF that comes with X3?

I am more used to total control of DVD authoring, like what to do at each sequence end (back to menu or next sequence) so even Corel 10 DVD creation was a but alien for me at first.

Thanks

Well, Corel provides the trimmed down version of it as a replacement to DVD Factory 2010, so they even think it must be better. Yes it is worlds better. DVD Factory 2010 is template based. The program almost chooses everything for you, leaving you very little room for customizing, or control.

When VS X3 downloads all the style packs and anything through the Corel Guide, Do More or Get More, the installation files are stored in folders. On a Vista and possibly a Win7 machine it should be in one of the folders found in C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads. It has to be in one of those, since VS X3 is invoking it when you first launch the program. I've re-installed various templates, and others, going to the downloaded folder. When you locate it, right-click on it, choose Run as Administrator. It should not launch VS and install the patch, which then should install DVD MF7SE for you.

Okay, have downloaded/installed the other get more packs and these installed okay, just that DVDF7se doesn't. it may be that I have X3 installed on D:\Corel_X3 folder rather then the 'usual' C:\Program Files\.... (running XP Pro).

Might just scrap X3 and re-install on c:\ to clear this issue and take it from there.

Thanks

That may be the problem. There are some programs that just refuse to allow installing on any other drive.

Okay, what I did was to delete X3 from my D: drive totally, then re-install fron scratch onto C: and all went in, except for DVD MF7 se. this wasn't on the list of get more. all else was.

so I went to the Corel.com US site and downloaded the TBYB DVD MovieFactory 7 pro. okay it's a bolt onto X3 and is really a standalone app.

Looks to be a whole lot better for the likes of me who are more 'work at the prompt' than menu driven.

Not sure if Corel will aloow me in the UK to buy the app at the USD price, may do as it isn't availabe in UKP prices.

Ok, good luck with that.

I know it was a big gripe about the Get More/Do More 3-day wait. So it might have taken 3 days for the option to download DVDMF 7SE to show up. However while you have DVD MF 7 Pro installed it will not.

Maybe Trevor can shed some more light on this, as he's in the UK also. I'm almost certain he has VS X3 and DVD MF7 SE.

Okay, thanks

Also, just put together a small sequence to take through X3 and onto DVDMF7 pro. All went well and first look at DVDMF7. It is really little difference from what previous DVD author apps were in 10 and X2 !! So can't see why this isnt bundled in with X3 in the first place, unless X3 was rushed to market and things, dropped/fell off/were not ready, on the way?

This seems to be the gripe others have about X3 and DVD authoring - why wasn't it there in the download, rather then DVD Factory 2010 which isn't a patch on DVDMF7 and really, now having had a look at DVDMF7 pro. This was the standard offering from Corel for 10 and X2 (the only versions I have used but looking at the list of DVDMFs out there, this is the seventh of well, seven !! SO take it that all the other previous versions of Corel Video Studio (and Ulead prefore) had this app bundled in, so why not X3?

You have missed a central point. Corel has been in the process of 'rationalising' the programs it inherited when it took over Ulead and InterVideo. In practice, this means that a lot of the Ulead programs were being scrapped. It seems that MF 7 was scheduled for the scrap-heap, not to appear again, just as its bigger brother DVD Workshop was already scrapped. Instead, Corel developed on its own this truly terrible suite of programs, of which DVD Factory "Pro" 2010 was just one. It was a conscious decision on the part of Corel to drop the old burning module from VS which had worked so well in X2 and previous versions and replace it with Factory 2010. Only it was just such a terrible program that users made such an outcry that they cast around for a substitute and came up with a cut down version of MF 7. But it was never written to work with X3, and that is why it cannot recognise X3 project files, for instance. But as you say, it is a great deal better than Factory 2010. And we can only hope that Corel has learnt its lesson and will restore the 'old' burning engine in future versions of VS...

Jennifer,

I guess I could just leave this blank, which would effectively answer your question, or request, which is to tell you it isn't true.... Sorry, it is true. The patches are meant for the full version, which is how's always been.

As I'm in the UK, DVD MovieFactory pro 7 isn't on Corals list of downloads but it is on the US site, so went there to download the trial, ten went on to buy the product to pbtain my key. It didn't take my UK credit card so used paypal, which worked ok and offered the current rate.

Anyway- got my activate code but it doesn't work!! Have he receipt on screen and copy/paste the code to counteract any finger trouble but again no joy. WIll have to get back to Corel and see why.

Only issue is..

Is it okay to buy this product from the US for use in the UK where the product is not available?

Any ideas?

When I try to download the patches, it tells me I need the retail version. When I purchase Video Studio Pro x3 they sent me the link for Movie Factory 7SE. I did indeed make a purchase of a retail item.

MF 7 SE is in fact a significantly cut-down version of the full (retail) version of MF 7. It was made available by Corel to users of Video Studio X3 when it became apparent that the new burning module they had included with X3 was just not up to the job. So while you got a link to a free substitute, it was not the full version of MF 7. And as is the usual Corel practice, updates and patches don't apply to SE versions unless specifically stated.

And just to clarify, no, I am not a Corel employee -- just a long time user of their (and their Ulead predecessor's) products.
