Output file for Youtube appears "squashed"

Post by gugglebum »

Hi

I use Videostudio 11.0. I have a very simple question which I tried to research in the forum, but can't get a result.

When I output my video using the "Share video online" option in Ulead, and select "best quality *wmv", sometimes, the resulting output file is 'squashed' - it appears with bars down the side. This just happened for a video I posted on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryWOnCy38as

the video is a series of pics in a slideshow, the pics were downloaded from various websites. The little bit of video in the file came from my Canon camcorder.

The pics as they appear when I am editing are "fatter" than this - these have been squeezed a bit, and look distorted.

The thing doesn't happen when I select "Create video file" - that gives me a perfect output, but a huge file which would take 3 hours to load into youtube.

I know I am making some awful newbie mistake, but if someone could just point me in the right direction I'd be massively grateful.

Thanks

I've never used the automatic Share Online feature, but if you have black bars down the side then the project is set for 4:3, or YouTube is interpreting it that way.

I always go the Create Video File way, but I choose Custom so I can choose my properties to make the file smaller, if need be.

Well of course you've got black bars down the sides - your pictures are portraits not landscapes!

Thanks, but I do already know the difference between landscape and portrait.

The issue is that the images are being distorted. They are now 'skinny' - they are being stetched; for example, they reach the top and bottom borders of the frame, which they didn't before. Also, look at the title at the start of the clip. On youtube it has borders at either side; whereas, in the project file, it fills the screen.

Hi gugglebum

If your project properties set for widescreen 16:9 and you subsiquently resize the frame to 4:3 then the content will be squashed.
WMV 640 x 480 is 4:3

Change your project properties to 4:3 and try to create WMV again.

If you wish to work in 16:9 then you may be best to use WMV-HD

Afaik----when you upload to You-Tube your video is converted to Flash
Does VS 11 allow you to create flash files???????
