Install of Ver9 upgrade -- Do's and Don't ?

Post by welchb »

Hi All,

I've just received my VS9 upgrade discs but want to install these onto a brand new computer.

Am I correct in saying that the VS9 upgrade is actually the full version and I should just install this or better to install VS8 1st and then VS9 over the top.

Along with this are there any tips or tricks do's and don't people would recommend with the new install, i.e. ensuring extra codec's are downloaded included 1st or again are all these on the Install discs.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

As to your first question, I think it is correct to say that it is a full version BUT it will first check to make sure you have a previous version. But for this, you don't have to actually load VS8 first. If you have the CD of that, just put it in one of your computer's optical drives and the VS9 installation program will see it and proceed to load. If you don't have VS8 (or 7 or previous, including SE versions) on CD, then I guess you will have to load one.

If you in fact first load VS 8, be aware that VS 9, when installed, will use some common files also used by VS 8. So if you later remove VS 8, those files will also go and you will have to do a Repair on VS 9 using your discs and Control Panel > Add/Remove Software.

The only other hint I can think of is to select both your country of original AND your TV system when asked. These appear on the same page towards the start of installation, and are alternatives i.e. you only need answer one. But I have found that problems sometimes later arise, especially for people in PAL countries, if they only choose their country. So I first choose my country, and then also click on the TV system part, which greys out the first part (but with my country still chosen).

Cheers Ken,

Think that ansewrs the question, I actually have 'orginal' disks of VS7, upgrade disks of VS8 and now the upgrade CD of VS9

I guess I'll install VS9 with VS7 in the other drive as you suggest -- I'll see what this brings.

Yeah I'm UK so am aware of Country and TV types but cheers again for the tip.

For many moons now I've been working resonable well on VideoStudio but on a WindowsME machine that only just about comes upto spec.

My new machine should be well upto the job but want to set this up correctly from the begining.

Cheers again,

Brian

Put VS 7 disc in drive, when install screen pops up EXIT installation.

Leave VS 7 disc in the drive.

Install VS 9

Good luck

Actually, typically uninstalling VS8 will leave the common files alone for VS9. However if you do suffer any problems after uninstalling VS8 then yes, repairing VS9 should fix the problem
