how can I achieve a graduated filter in VS9

Post by amtvs9 »

I'd like to place a graduated filter (no opacity at the bottom of the frame rising to say 50% opacity at the top and assume use of a neutral density grey) over a clip but I've not been able to find a filter that can do this. I tried using the "light" filter but it doesn't really work as you can not modify the opacity across the frame so you end up with an effect that goes from say grey to white rather than grey to see through.
anyone know of way to do this ? the required end effect is to enhance the clouds in the sky.

Don't know that you can do it with the filters that come with VS. Even though you can key-frame most filters, the effects are applied to the entire clip.

There is a company called New Blue that has effects that can be used in VS. You might want to check if they have something that will work. You also might want to check Burger's FX Bench.

Hi

Using a photo editor create yourself a PNG image, gradient grey to transparent--- 768 x 576 would do for 4:3
Use in overlay track.

Similar effect in using the Mask Frames in Chroma Key options
