What I had in the box was a VS sample file and I was looking to change that for a different one.Does what you advise still apply ,if so where do I look for for another VS sample and can I preview that before selecting it.

When you click on the Clef symbol and then click on 'Select a Music Track for this Menu', you would normally, by default, have the VS 'Audio' folder window open, and in my case there are 40 music and sound effect clips in it. And if you highlight one (use the right button on your mouse, you can listen to it by clicking on the play button which is down at the bottom of the window... Or as already suggested, you can browse to any other folder where you store music/audio...

Menu audio
In the project that was the subject of the post the video menu mode was
running.I construted a dummy project and selected the audio mode
before selecting the clef.(the audio menu only had 12 files-A3 to A12,
where have the others gone?)"no music selected" showed. It went to the "MyMusic" folder and I then could not select any of the A files. There was a sample folder in my music but that was empty

Well, it should if there are indeed files in that samples\audio folder ... if I have understood your problem correctly.
FWIW, I just checked and I have 15 music files in the VS11.5+ audio samples folder, though I could not swear I had necessarily unpacked all the files for that version as I tend to use my own music for menu backgrounds and that is stored elsewhere on my computer... And those 15 files appear to be identical to some of those in the X2 folder...

To make even more suitable audio available you can use smartsound.
firstly place a color block on the VideoStudio Editor time line and alter its length to the duration you want for the menu background music - perhaps 20 seconds or so.
Now add some smartsound to the audio track. from the [Share] tab export it as an Audio file. There you are.... some extra audio for your menu(s)

SmartSound also has the advantage of being tailored to fit into the exact length of time you choose. This is particularly useful for the menu background, where you are allowed no longer than 30 seconds for the music, and then it cuts off and starts again. But with SmartSound, you can tailor a music clip to, say, 29 seconds, and it has a beginning, middle and end, and does not suddenly cut-off in the middle...!

Thanks for the further info.Putting aside the no of samples available and the fact that I usually use my own music and browse for it successfully(he says with some qualified confidence)my actual problem was replacing a sample file that was already running(that is showing in the box) with another one(just because I did not like that one, wanted to replace/listen to another one and had never used them before)
So , my actual problem was that I could not find a way to change to another sample file from the one that was already displaying in the box.How do I browse to another sample file.Do I need the audio library open first?

If you are listening to a sample file, then presumably you have (had) a window open in the background where you selected that file and where -- normally -- there are other sample files. If you don't like the one you selected, then click the button again and choose another of the sample files... And as I say, if you right click one of the others, there is a button down the bottom of that window which allows you play it before actually selecting it to be the background.

Hi Ken V
For VS 10
The default sample audio files used in the menu are here:-
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10\Content\Audio
For VS 11
I assume your files will be here:-
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11\Content\Audio
You can of course use any audio file on your pc.
But will be limited to 30 seconds, the maximum time of the Motion Menu.
If you wish to play the audio to the end then you have to stop using the Motion Menu
Disable by removing the ¡¥tick¡¦ from the box.

Presumably you have clicked the edit tag and can see this:Kenneth Veal wrote: So , my actual problem was that I could not find a way to change to another sample file from the one that was already displaying in the box.How do I browse to another sample file.Do I need the audio library open first?

Click the music clef and that will open a dialogue where you can "Select a music track for this mennu" or Delete the music track for ths menu" Click on the first one and this will open your window with the other music tracks. Click on any one of them, then click "Open" and the new music clip will be in the box to the right of the music clef in the screenshot.

Well you learn something every day!
I don't think I had ever looked in the Contents\Audio sub-folder, but sure enough there were audio files there -- 21 one of them in X2. Even more interestingly, though, is that I also have audio files -- and 40 of them -- in the Samples\Audio sub-folder I have been harping on about above... And none of the 40 are among the 21 in the Contents\Audio sub-folder. So there is a wealth to choose from!!
