VLC has hijacked my VS files

VS11+ XP Home.
Since downloading VLC media player it has taken over all my VS files in my working folder.I have to right click and "open with" VS.How can I get back to the previous situation where I just clicked on them and they opened in VS.....................Ken

right click file
open with
choose programme
"select VS"
always use this programme

That worked OK for the first fille I used it on.Do I have to do this for every file.Is there a way to "batch" this command.When I clicked on another file (that I had not done what you advised to it) it still wanted to play in VLC after a "AVI index box" showed with the following in it:-
This AVI file is broken,seeking it will not work correctly.Do you want to try and fix it.It may take a long time.I did not try then it opened in VLC.
I opened it in VS and it played ok........................Ken

you need to do it for each file type.
Quicker might be to use system restore and go back to before VLC, then re-install VLC but don't allow it to make any associations to file type.

Would this problem go away completely if I just uninstalled VLC and forget about using it because I only really installed as an easy way to play CDs on the PC

I wouldn't. I would do it Graham's way, once you have opened each affected file type once you should be "back to normal". there can't be that many file types affected.
