Project titles changed when I moved my project to another PC

Post by RDK45 »

Folks...I have VS 11.5+ on my laptop (XP and it usually works fine) and VS11.5 on the deskPC (XP and it usually works fine). Both machines have plenty of memory and disk space. Both have the most recent (to my knowledge) version of DirectX.

The problem is strange. I recently completed a project on my laptop and wanted to transfer it to the deskPC so I could clean up my hard drive. Actually I just moved it all to an external hard drive which now works with either machine. When I fire up VS11.5 (no plus) it appears that the title font sizes have changed (larger) which causes some text to be pushed off the right edge of the screen. If I go back to the laptop and open the "exact same file" with VS11.5+ everything looks correct.

Any ideas as to what is going on here?

Thanks....RDK

ps....I'm not terribly impressed with the "Search" facility on this forum. Most annoying is the fact that from the "search results" page you can open up a "hit", but if you try to go back to the "search results" page I get an error and I'm forced to refresh that page or start another search. What is going on???

Hi

Are you sure that the font installed on the Laptop is also installed on the Desktop.
If not then VS will probably use its default font to display the text.

And as far as the Search function, when you get a "hit" use Shift+Click to open it in a new window. When finished, close that window and the Search results will still be there in their own window.

Also to keep the results to a reasonable number remember to put "and" between each word if you want the search engine to search for the entire phrase otherwise it will return each incident of each word which is often thousands.

Thanks guys. I will check the font issue this evening.

Another piece of information on the issue is that when I make a DVD with the resulting MPG file on my desk PC using VS, the preview pane shows the truncated titles and the associated menu (Using the thumbnails templates) also shows the truncated titles. BUT, when I play the DVD the TV flickers for a second and then shows the titles correctly.

Now what do you think?

DVD's made from the laptop do not show any of this behavior.

Thanks also for the search tips.....Rob

Folks...Sorry for the long delay in getting back on this question/issue. Fonts were not the issue as I was using Arial and it was on both my towerPC and my laptop. I never did figure it out, but re-editted the project on the tower PC to get the desired results....RDK
