X2 does not seem to have a genuine video cross fade transition. There are a variety of glitzy transitions in the effects tab but no old fashioned cross fade.
The X2 user manual explains how to cross fade two audio clips by dragging one audio clip over the end of the other.
I tried dragging two video clips over each other and the result was one of the animated effect transitions that I didn't want.
Am I missing something?
On the issue of unspecified error [5:0:0] I am happy to report that the advice posted a few months ago worked for me: Share>Create Video File and create a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file. Then open a new project and go to Share>create disc and use insert Mediate to insert the MPEG-2 file into the buring timeline. Worked like a charm.

Misty,
You need to go into the Preferences settings (press F6 on your keyboard or File menu>Preferences), then go to the Edit tab, and down at the bottom in the Transition section, locate FX Cross-fade in the drop-down menu for Default Transition Effect. You do not have to check the box to auto apply, just set the default to Cross-fade. Now whenever you overlap your clips whatever is set in the default will be used.

Or if you don't want to manually overlap the clips you can simply go to Transitions>F/X and choose Cross-Fade. I believe Cross-Fade is also a default transition in the My Favorites folder.
