WinDVD 8

Post by Davidk »

This is a query about the WinDVD 8 versions supplied with Videostudio 11 and ProX2.

In my movie making class (which focusses on applying VS to that task), the students with ProX2 have found that the version of WinDVD 8 supplied on their distribution Cd's is a vanilla version, and in particular doesn't the camera still feature (click the tool bar camera and save a frame as a still image).

Students (usually those who have been at this about a year longer) who have VS11 have the WinDVD 8 gold edition installed from their distribution CD's, and this does have the camera still feature (the camera symbol in the tool bar).

Re-installation (by the student who initially discovered this with proX2) did not change the result and subsequently (after a class level discussion) several other students and the instructor found the same result using separate distribution Cd's for ProX2.

The feature difference between the vanilla and gold versions in the tool bar stands out, as does the fact that the issue appears to be common to the program CD's for the Pro X2 version.

Does anyone know or can advise:
- why that is the case (the camera feature variance between classes of the same product version (WinDVD 8), and
- why Corel would distribute the gold version with VS 11 and an inferior version with a later supposedly more capable version (pro X2)

David -- I am afraid you are asking the wrong people. All of us here are volunteer users, and have no link with Corel other than running this web for the benefit of the users (which we are too)! We would be merely speculating as to why Corel does anything... let alone why they use one or another ancilliary program in their packaging.

That being said, I have WinDVD 9 with Blu-Ray quite independently of the WinDVD version which came with my X2 Ultimate. Therefore, I am afraid I never installed the version which came in the X2 package for the simple reason that I already had the later version.

But as I say, to unravel the mystery, you would have to ask Corel itself... Sorry.
