Smooth fade out of music

Post by RYORK »

Hi all,

I want to fade out music in a clip gradually. I have clicked on the music track in the audio file and then draggred the volume down slowly. When I play the music it cuts off abruptly at the end.

What is the easiest way of gradully fading out a music clip smoothly?

Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob

I find ¡¥Rubber banding¡¦ dragging the volume level down a bit awkward to use.
Dragging the last frame seems to be difficult.

From the edit timeline view, select the clip, hit the fade fade-in or Fade ¡Vout ramps adjacent to the digital clock.

The default fade duration can be set from File ¡V Preferences.
Switch to Audio view to see results,

What version of Vs are you using?

Oh by the way, view the effect in project playback mode.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for that. I use Videostudio pro ultimate. I will give that a try tonight. When changing in preferences the default time for fading out, will that be for the whole project or can I just do it for that specific clip?

Thanks

Hi Rob

You apply a fade-in/out to individual clips, the length of the fade can be set in preferences, this will affect all newly applied fades. Once you have applied fade out, go to the Audio view, you can manually change the fade duration by dragging the square at the top of the ramp.
Use the timeline Zoom option to expand/contract the timeline(the + and ¡V slider)

When editing the audio in VS, you have the solid line 'rubber band' along which you can insert nodules (or 'square' dots) at selected points. You can then drag one of those 'squares' up or down to vary the volume at that point.

In a fade in or out, the rubber band line starts or ends down at zero and there is an angle (or 'ramp') in the line leading up from or down to zero. It will then hit a square where it flattens out. If you want to lengthen or shorten the fade-in or out, then you click and hold the square and drag it either right or left.

Hi Stelios

From Timeline view apply a fade-in or out.
Switch to Audio View, here you see the Rubber Banding option.
You should be able to identify the volume level as a red line, (VS 10) and a ramp indicating the audio fade

Edit Cheers Ken
