muting audio music track?

Post by BobGH »

Switched from MediaStudio 8 to VS (XP computer crashed, replaced with Vista, soon WIN 7 so I had to give up MediaStudio). First question: can the music track be muted ? I saw how to mute audio from a video track, but not a music track.

I appreciate this forum so I can find out what I can and cannot do in VS compared to MS.

You can right click the video on your time line and you will have an option to mute that clip.

But it's not the video clip audio that he wants to mute, it is added background music, I assume. And the mute button is not there for such tracks.

It does confuse me, though, why you would add a separate music track and then want to mute it. If you don't want the background music, you just remove the inserted file!

But if you still want it there, and only want it muted for test purposes, say, then all you can do is adjust the volume down from the default 100 to 0 (in the little box to the immediate left of where the Mute button would appear in the video timeline... )

The reason I want to mute the music track is so I don't have to hear the music over and over as I fine tune graphics and edits (can get annoying). Yet I wanted the track for the initial edit to get pacing and timing. Since MS had an easy function to mute/solo audio on any track I was wondering if there was the same option in VS. I guess my choice is to remove the track and reinsert for final edit or turn the volume to zero during editing. I did search for an answer before asking.
