Problem with crazy playback colors!?

Post by esclava »

Hello,

Less than a week ago I opened my .vsp project file that I've been working on. I noticed when the project was on pause, all the colors in the timeline looked normal so I suspected nothing. However, when I went to play my project in the timeline, all the colors in my video and image clips took on a horrible darkness. I originally thought that something corrupted my original file(s), so I randomly opened some of my clips externally in MPC player and other media players and they looked normal. Then I did a fresh install on VS12...no change. So I came to the forums and found out how to completely remove it (delete its registry files, etc.) ...Still the same. I got the patch for VS12 and the Direct X update...still the same. Nothing seems to work.

Here are some snapshots:

Does anyone have any suggestions or know how to fix it? Any input would be appreciated.

BTW: This happens with any type of file in VS12: Video, Image, .UVP drawings, etc.

Thank you!

Before I offer a fix can I confirm if you have a Nvidia Graphics card?

(Might as well fill out the rest of your Sytem specs)

I'm actually buying time to remember exactly how to fix this as this happened to me too... :)

It's to do with your Nvidia settings in Control Panel but I will tell more when you answer the above.

I was going to say, this happened to someone before. I'll leave it to Clevo to solve it!

Yes, I do have a NVidia GC. I filled out the rest of my system specs. If you have further questions, please ask. I was wondering if maybe there is a problem with the refresh rate? It currently is set at 60Hz refresh rate. Thanks!

Have you created a DVD and tried it on your TV set, it might be a minor problem you can ignore if the end result (watching on your TV) is as it should be.

OK try this

Go to your Nvidia Control Panel

in Windows Vista it's

Control Panel/NVIDIA Control Panel/

Then select, and this is where I forget... it's either

Display/ Adjust desktop color settings: select the "Other Aplications control color settings"

or it's:

Video/Adjust video Color settings: with the NVIDIA color settings

( I appreciate they seem contradictory)

In my situation I have both of these and it's resolved the darkening of the colour when you press play in the preview screen....

Thanks for your replies. I'm about 99% sure that the final product will play on my tv set, or even on my pc as an .ISO image. But the only problem is that I can't complete the project without being able to fully see my colors. My current project is pretty much based on seeing the real colors... Otherwise, I agree, I could do that.

I went to my NVidia Control Panel, but unfortunately, Vista to XP is different. Or, it could be the difference in Graphic cards. They do have different options for different models, I have noticed. I can't seem to find anything about other applications controlling color settings. Here is another snapshot so you can see what I was looking at in my Control Panel.

(I set them back to their original "default" settings, but that didn't change anything. Also, I changed the refresh rate, but that didn't help either!)

Thanks!

In your "related tasks" go to Adjust Video Color settings...

I'm sure it's a Nvidia setting that will correct your issue...

I went to the "adjust video color settings" panel and made some changes. Then I restarted the pc and tried VS but it was the same. I have to admit, I didn't know what I was doing in that panel anyways. But there was an option that said: "apply these settings to all video technologies" and I selected that. Still nothing changed. So I am inserting another snapshot of that main screen and each of the tabs in that window.

Hope that helps someone find the solution...

Your layout is so different to mine...it might be because you have an analogue Monitor...

Play with the Correction setting while you are playing a video in the preview pane

Also play with the "Use inverse telecine"...see what that does :) Mine is set to on

I'm sorry, Vidoman. I didn't remember the "resize rule."

Thanks, Clevo! I followed your instructions. The funny part is how your instructions got it to work. I first opened VS and my NVidia ctrl panel, and noticed when I previewed my video, everything was great! So I thought that must have fixed it. I closed NVidia...problem started again. Then I thought something else had triggered the correction, so I re-opened ctrl panel...working again! So I was willing to actually work on my project with the ctrl panel open, since that seemed to do the job. But I thought I would make some changes in the Correction tab, just to be fair. None of my changes made any effect. I pressed "restore defaults" because I couldn't remember 100% what I had changed: that did the job! VS is working great again, without NVidia Control Panel open! Thanks!
