When to buy Pro X2?

Post by wstagner »

I currently have VS 11.5+ and don't use it much. But I do like to stay current on software. So, when should I upgrade? OR should I wait for the next version, if there is one?

Seems like the best price I've seen is $49.00 from Corel?

TIA,
Walt

If you don't use it much why would you upgrade at all? :?

As far as a next version, I think it will be a while until that comes around.

Thanks for the reply, Jeff. As I said, I do like to stay reasonably current on software. Most improved X2 feature, from the specs anyway, is the rendering time.

I just produced a 2 hr DVD last week and from the click to burn to finished DVD was 4 hrs. Would it be correct that X2 cuts this time in 1/2?

So did all those people who "upgraded to Vista" and then wished they hadn't.
The tests should be:

Does the software I currently have do everything I want of it?
Does the newer software have some extra thing or functionality that I think has some significant improvement(s) over what I already have?

There is a 30 day free trial available to help you make your mind up.

Rendering time has a lot of variables, from the file types being rendered, to the number of effects in the project, to the performance of your pc. To be honest, I have not noticed any "considerable" improvement in rendering times from version 10 to X2.

Yes, I think lots of folks wish they hadn't upgraded to Vista!
Can you say Windoze 7? :D

I looked at X2 Pro when it was first released, and I didn't get much further than the interface...I seem to remember not liking how dark it was (compared to prior versions) and uninstalling it right away. Old folks like me tend to resist such changes.

I'll see if I can either retry it on my working pooter or install on another pooter in my office.

I do appreciate the responses and candor on this forum.

In fact, I've watched many of the vids produced by members of this forum and they are impressive, quite professional-looking in fact. My needs are quite simple.

My most recent project was to help a friend "fix" his DVD so that it was playable in a pooter or DVD player. I imported all its chapters and remade the DVD with a main and chapter menus in VS. This was all quite EZ.

My other need is to transfer tape footage of my band to DVD. I've got 5 hrs of video from 2 years ago I've been avoiding working with simply because of the time it takes to transfer from tape and edit into individual songs, so that I can make them into chapters.
It would be better to have someone operate the camera and stop/start it as each new song is played. Unfortunately, that's not an option for us.

This isn't related to upgrading to X2, just restating what I use it for.

The help/support obtained here is first-rate and I thank you all for it...again.

If you have a few pennies/dollars to spend then why not look at upgrading your RAM. Will have more effect on perfomance than upgrading software IMHO.

Already upgraded to 3gb from 1gb. No perf. diff.
I have a p4 3ghz, not dual core.
Dunno how much that would improve things.

I don't think the price can be cut down any more.
