VideoStudio 12 trial and mp4

Post by mgrogan »

Hello,

I'm trialling the software 12.0.98.0 Pro to determine if it will allow me to edit my .mp4 files from my el eheapo Opek IDV 5550i (from catchoftheday.com.au).

If I insert video I get the error message "File format mismatch".

I tried to update the patch
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 9440480826
as it was mentioned that "MP4 file insertion now works as expected "
but when I try to install the VSX2PROPATCH.exe patch I get the error message "Installer cannot find Corel Video Studio 12 on your machine".

This is an obvious message as I'm not a registered user.

I tried using both the settings 1440 x 1080 and 640 x 480 on the camera.

How can I test my .mp4 file with the software?

Pardon my ignorance but are there different versions of .mp4 if, so how to determine what I have?

I have updated Microsoft® Windows Media® Player, Apple® QuickTime®, RealNetworks® RealPlayer and Microsoft® DirectX®
as mentioned here
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... bview=tab6

The programs VLC, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer and Quicktime allow me to view the .mp4 file. I'm assuming that I have the codecs? installed for .mp4?

I have tried the software on an XP machine in case it was a compatability issue of windows 7, but had the same result "File format mismatch".

Many thanks

:)

You cannot apply updates or patches to trial versions.

Thanks for that.

Does the patch mean that would be able to edit my .mp4 file?

Thanks

Yes that patch should fix the mp4 insertion problem.

Thanks for your reply.

I did order and eventually successfully activated the product.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=187709#187709

Unfortunately the purchased product with update version "12.0.98.1" does *not* allow me to edit my .mp4 files.

I get the error messge of Invalid format still.

A most, most frustrating 4 hours.

Hi Margaret
For what it is worth, I downloaded an mp4 file from YouTube. It plays in WinDVD9 OK but when I try to import into VS x2 Pro it crashes and I get the VS has got to close etc. Will keep plugging away at this one!

Have now emailed Corel support and asked if this prog supports MP4 files. There is by the way nothing wrong with the MP4 file I downloaded from YouTube. I can open it and edit it in an alternative, much simpler Video Editor that I use.
Will keep you posted when I hear from Corel.

I've had problems with some mp4 files. I ran them through Super a free conversion utility. I kept everything the same, and was able to insert the video file created by Super into VS. Might be worth trying.

I smiled when I read what SUPER could do. All I require of movie editing in the short term is to join some of my .mp4 files. :) :(

I look forward to your reply. I bought VS 12 Pro in good faith having attempted their trial though it did not allow updates. The software currently is very unsuitable for my purposes.

Try Super
This piece of software converts almost any video format into almost any other video format. Very useful if you've downloaded DivX Xvid or MPEG4 files off the internet and then find you are having difficulty editing them due to their highly compressed nature.

Steve,
She did try Super, as I recommended above, however Super did not help. I think she has a AVCHD file (Advanced Video Codec-Hi Definition).

Thanks Steve. How responsive have Ulead and Corel been to updating the software for new/newish file types?

Thanks
