Error code Capture Module initialisation failed when trying

Post by Roseevans »

I am trying to download video using a firewire to the ULead Video 11 plus from a Sony HDR-HC5E Hi Def camera. One gets the following error codes
Capture module initialisation failed 15064.20.0
Unable to switch to capture mode
Cannot start capture graph 15065.29.0
Once I did find a o bytes mpg saved but it would not open.
No image comes on the screen but when one clicks the play button below the screenthe camera starts to play the tape. So the camera driver is installed and working. No error is shown in device manager.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Rose

Welcome to the forum

There have been some problems with VS 11 and firewire, unfortunately I don¡¦t know the details as I don¡¦t use VS 11
Do a search of the forum

You may be best to use Sony software to capture/download the video files to the pc..
Then import the clips to Video Studio.

Rose -- do you have VS11 or VS11+? And have you applied the update patch(es)? (One of them only applies to VS 11+ and makes it VS11.5+.)

I have Version 11.5.0157 plus with update patch
I also find that one cannot see a prepared video in the preview screen when one goes to "Share". Don't know if this is related.
I have Directx version 9.0c, which I know can be an issue.

Hi Rose

There appears to be three updates for VS 11, see :-
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 8716781313

Direct X
Although you say you have Direct X 9.0c, have you manually updated Direct X from the link at the top of this forum.

The manual approach seems to fix things that the normal Auto Windows Updates does not.
Don¡¦t understand why, but that¡¦s the way it is.

Hi Rose

Have you installed the software programs that came with the Sony HDR-HC5E camera.?
The Handycam Application Software.
Includes a ¡¥Motion Picture Browser¡¦

Are you able to use this program to capture your video footage.?

If you cannot capture using this program then the problem is related to your computer not Video Studio.

You can also try to capture the video with the program built into Windows XP - Windows Movie Maker.

I have installed that program and it works. However it seems to split the video into many small clips. I was thinking the Ulead import might be better, as well as creating the right sort of file type. For example I created an HD clip for Youtube using the Sony program to generate the video data. Youtube keeps chucking it out though I had selected "keep original file type" when rendering. But that might be something else.

Thanks.

One of those updates looks very interesting for this purpose. Not sure if it is the one I have. I had tried updating Direct X and got an error message in the process saying a Cab file was not authorised, or something similar.

However I then found that I could no longer import video from my Adaptec mpg encoder into my DVD. I tried various things, removing the firewire card etc The only way forward was a system restore removing the DirectX update attempts. I am a little reluctant to try that again, especially as the system restore refused to go back beyond one day. Luckily the DirectX update was within that one day.

Hi Rose

Strange that you had problems with Direct X update. No ideas there I¡¦m afraid.

Capturing video can use Split by Scene option, creates individual files for each scene. VS can also do this.
There should be an option to remove this, maybe something in the capture preferences?. the capture would then create one file.

You would then be able to import the files to VS 11 to edit.

Hi Rose, on this point do you have Norton Anti Virus installed, if so you need to go into Safe Mode to get System Restore to work properly.

I have Zone Alarm for AV and usually there is no problem with going back to restore. However as advised by yourselves I have installed all the UV11 patches except the hot patch - prviously I only installed what seemed relevant and.....IT WORKED!

Many thanks to both of you for your help and advice.
