I hope I am posting these questions under the right place in regards to 7?
I was noticing working with mp4 files my videos are the ones that seem to lock up.
Anyone try mp4's in windows 7? If they have, is their a problem, they worked in xp. I think these might be quicktime files?
thanks

I don't have Win7, but as a general rule some MP4 files can be trouble.* Did these exact same files work in XP?
Try saving the files as DV/AVI before editing. If that works, you should be able to re-open the DV/AVI files and edit without problems. (You can save your edited files in MP4 if that's your preferred format.)
If you can't convert the files with Video Studio, try converting the files to MPEG-2 with SUPER (FREE!!!).
* All of the "highly compressed" or "more advanced" formats can be difficult to edit or convert.

Various video formats supported in XP were no longer supported in Vista.
Since windows 7 is "Son of Vista" anything that does not work in Vista is unlikely to work in Windows 7.
You can try converting your video files into something else with a free utility

no problems before
I had no problems with any format before in VS12 and xp, I didn't upgrade to vista, because their seemed to be a lot of problems. I seem to have my files linked. I dont' use a lot of mp4's, and will try a few of the suggestions. They worked very well before.
Now I have to try and burn something, this is were vs first started crashing.
Hopefully some of the things are taken care of now. Hopefully they will have the updates soon. Since they are advertising it is wind7 compatable.
Thanks,
I am sure in the next several daays I will post again.

Re: no problems before
Yes, VideoStudio is compatible but not all Video formats - i.e. the material you are importing into it such as your MP4 are compatiblebrucefl wrote:....... Since they are advertising it is wind7 compatible.

Maybes it the quicktime connection
I have reimported all my files back (at least I think)
It is possible it has something to do with qt and 7 working with VS?
I have not tried burning a project, but seems it is working (tilll I get a lot more time to work with vs and 7)
I will try another mp4, but it seems to hang. I mport the video, then
try to edit it, and the blue circle (or whatever you want to call it) just goes around and around.

mp4 are they quicktime files?
hi
I was thinking about file assoc. and VS, QT and Windows 7
When I started quicktime, it says some files assoc. with qt are currently assoc. with other applications. Should I restore these file type assoc. to QT?
Is is possible that the problem is the assoc. between VS & QT, not necessarily win7?
I know I can easily change them back. Only problem I have when QT is installed as in previous versions they like to assoc. everything with QT (ie mpgs, avi and other files), so normally I just have QT assigned to its own program.
Thought I would run the question by the group rather than mess my file assoc. up and have to go back in and change them.
thanks Bruce

Put very simply.
When you associate a file extension, if you double click that file it opens with the program you have associated with it such as a txt file will open with Windows Notepad.
This does not prevent you from opening that file with other programs, you can just as easily open a txt file with
Microsoft Word
Wordpad
Open Office
and several other programs.
Similarly there are several programs that can open QT files, though normally it would be associated with Apple Quicktime.

qt/vs
Though I am wondering if the assoc. is for qt, and vs is looking to work with that program within itself.
If the file assoc. isn't correct, then would it crash vs?
I assume that these programs work in tandem with VS?
thanks. still plugging along
