Canon GL2 stopped being recognized on VSproX2

Post by joosuna »

Every thing was working fine until a few days ago. VSproX2 stopped recognizing my camcorder. When I connected it and powered up to the firewire port, there was no Vista recognition noise (bing). Is it possible
the camera is defective and is not putting out the necessary signal
to be recognized? or my Vista program is corrupted to not recognize the camcorder ? any experience in this field, would be appreciated.

Does Windows Movie Maker "see" the camera? Or does it show up in Computer as a separate drive?

If not, it could indeed be that the camera's DV connection is kaput. A cheaper option would be that it is your computer's firewire card or cable... Have you got a spare firewire cable or a friend with camcorder which also uses firewire?

Ken, your suggestion seems to be on target...cause windows movie maker does not recognize the camcorder, either...will try changing the firewire cable
thanks

Also make sure the firewire card is properly seated in its slot. I hve seen here before that re-seating the card has fixed the problem.

Thanks Ken and Lab, you guys were right about the i link (firewire cable).
Old cable went bad, all by itself. Tried two camcorders with old cable, neither were recognized by computer. Got new firewire cable..works great. In this case it had nothing to do with Video Studio software...just simply a very cheap firewire cable that went bad.
