VS9 and WMP?

I installed the trial version of VS9. It won't recognize video from my digicam (Cannon ELF) but will recognize video from my digital camcorder (Panasonic). Both are avi files. It also won't recognize the movies I've created from the digicam.

Even worse, Windows Media Player (and several other players) can also no longer open the videos I created. I forced it open with VLC Media player but the sound and video is terrible. I uninstalled and did a system restore and everything worked fine again. Then I reinstalled and nothing worked. Reinstalled and it didn't work. I've since uninstalled and did a system restore.

Is this a known bug and are there fixes in the works? With these kind of problems I really can't see reinstalling the software...

What is the codec used by the AVI files from your digital camera? What you are running into is a codec conflict, where a codec attempts to decode a stream (audio or video), but fails.

There are tools to help diagnose and fix such problems, including AVI Sniper and GSpot.
