replacing face in photo with another

I want to take one photo & replace part of it with another. You know how with Jib Jib the face is removed so you can add what you want? Like that.

Hi,

I've done this a few times with pretty good results using PSP Pro. The method I use is to place each photo on a layer with the head of the person you want to add on the bottom. Then use the eraser tool to erase the head on top revealing the one underneath. The trick is getting the 2 photos positioned correctly so the one head is just beneath the other. You might also have to resize (larger or smaller). Be sure to zoom in.

With a little experimentation you should be able to do what you want -- especially if it does not have to be perfect.

Once for a joke I scanned the cover of an AARP magazine and replaced the person's head with my friend's head.

Thank you for posting. I followed sjj1805's directions, but could not access some of the things the tutorial said to do. For instance:

"Before you get started choose File, Preferences, General Program Preferences. In the Paint Shop Pro Preferences dialog box, select the Misc. tab. Make sure that the option for "When viewing an image through the mask represent fully masked areas using" is "50% red".

Load the photo that you want to remove an object, or person from.

Choose Masks, New, Empty.

Choose Masks, Edit. Your photo should be completely covered with a solid black mask.

Choose View, Through Mask. You'll now be able to see your photo through the 50% red mask"

I looked all over the toolbox & all the other options & could not find the above.

Woodchuck, that's on the idea of what I want to do. My DD wants me to put her & her family's faces in a silly photo of Vacation (Chevy Chase) for her Christmas cards. It really would be funny.
I haven't tried what you suggested yet. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

That tutorial appears to use PSP 4, which is completely different to the current version, X2 Ultimate or 12.5. PSP 4 didn't use layers, and masks were different. I don't think it's worth rewriting the tutorial, because I don't think that using a mask is the best way to go about things.

Open copies of both images. With the one that contains the head you want, crop the image so that you have just the head and a little bit of background. Use the Background Eraser to remove the rest of the background. Copy the head and paste it as a new layer on the image that needs the head replaced. Use the Pick tool to move, resize and rotate the new head into position. You may also need to do some colour and lightness tweaking to get it to match. You may also need to use the Clone Brush on the bottom layer to hide any of the old head that isn't covered by the new head.
Once everything looks basically OK, merge the layers (or better still, merge duplicates to the two layers), then zoom in and then do any editing necessary to refine the edge of the new head. You may need to use tools like the Clone, Smudge or Soften brushes.

I've skipped over a lot of detail and assumed a very high level of knowledge of PSP, so if there is anything that you don't understand, please ask. Only too happy to go into more detail.

Hi Tim,
Ok....maybe you should go into a little more detail. I got one picture placed where I want it, but I'm having a hard time with the others. It's probably because I'm tired. Does each face I want on the original (background) have to be a raster layer? Sometimes after I've done the freehand selection tool, I try to copy & paste it into where I want it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Am I allowed to post a picture of what I'm trying to do?
