How to open MTS files

Post by dlfinch »

Need a little help. I am trying to open MTS files that were produced on a Sony HD digital video camera. I can't figure out how to import the files.

Thanks.

Assuming you have downloaded them to your hard drive, Click File then Import Media File to Library then click Insert Video... then locate the MTS file on your hard drive Click Open. Hey presto file (or link to it rather) appears as a thumbnail in the library. Then just drag and drop to the timeline or storyboard.

system crash

Post by dlfinch »

Thanks for the input. I tried importing from the DVD but later found that I had to copy the file to my hard drive 1st. Everything seemed to be going well until the program started to import. It crashed my system. I have tried several times. It messes up my screen display settings. I don't understand what is going on.

Any more advice?

What do you have it set to? Is it set to VideoStudio's requirements?

opening mts files

Post by Nicholas Rumin »

I have a similar problem. The mts files were produced by a Lumix digital camera. They are on my hard drive. I import them to my library as described by Mitchell and then drag them to the time line. When I then play the Project, the sound and pix are out of sync and the video freezes from time to time. I tried googling about this and it seems that I need to first convert the mts files to something like mpg before opening them in VS X2. Is that really so?

I'm afraid it is. The Lumix uses a hybrid format called 'AVCHD Lite' which VS has difficulty recognising. It has been discussed here before. See for example http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=184332#184332 which also contains a link to a converter program which is said to work.

Thanks for the reference Ken. I dowloaded Free HD Converter V1.4 from www.koyotesoft.com and successfully converted the AVCHD files to avi. The video and audio are excellent. I hope that the successor to VS12 will accept this format. It seems to me that its use can only grow as digital cameras become more and more still and video cameras.
