Converting .AVI to MPEG2

Post by montgal55 »

Hello Everyone:

Since it is more efficient to work with video files in MPEG2 format for burning to DVD due to size and other issues, I have adopted the practice of converting them before burning to disk with DVDMFPro7.

However, I have been noticing after converting the file, the screen size is a tad squeezed. Like 4:3 ratio on steriods. This is even when choosing 16:9 ratio in the program. I have tried three programs: SUPER, Any Video Converter and AVI to MPEG. All three of these programs are excellent in converting files. I say to myself, ". . .maybe this is what a converted .AVI file is suppose to look like. . ."

I was wondering has anyone else had this issue?

Is there a way to convert .AVI files to MPEG2 without having the screen size change? (keep in mind that I have perform in setup picking 16:9 ratio and changing the screen size option, but to no avail).

Any suggestions . . .

If this is happening with 3 different conversion programs, I'd say there's something "funny" with your original AVI files. Where are the files coming from?

Note that "AVI" is not a single format. It's a "container" or "wrapper" format that can contain any type of compression.

AVI to MPEG2 Conversion

Post by montgal55 »

Hello DVDDoug:

You may be right. If all three programs are giving the same result, there could be something 'funny' about the AVI file. The file comes from the Internet. I download most of my movies, so I do have to be vigilent in how these types of files were formulated. But, then again, you are also correct about AVI files having numerous types of compression.

What I may have to do is be creative. Instead of converting my AVI to MPEG2, convert it to DVD Compatible MPEG2. Add my subtitles. Convert completed file. Then import into MFPro7.

I'lll see what happens. . .
