Sorting Files and/or Searching on Topics

Post by seremetcc »

I have Video Studio Pro X2 and am wondering how to sort my jpgs and mov files once they have been entered into the storyboard. I understand one can sort in the photo library and the video library b ut what about when they have been brought into the storyboard??

Or where can I search the user board to see if this question has been asked in the past?

You cannot sort clips on the storyboard you have to move them manually.
The Image Search function is just above this image at the top of the page:

storeyboard

I have not got X2 but in 11+ you can enlarge the storeyboard view into one big screen by clicking on the "enlarge" icon just below the one you press for the storeyboard view. This might be easier to use(provided
it is the same in X2)........................Ken

Multi-Media Clip Library Folder?

Post by seremetcc »

Thank you for your reply.

What a waste of time! To have to manually place video files throughout the image file string seems ridiculous. I take alot of photos with video interspersed throughout. To have to manually place each video file in its sequencial place will take forever.

Is there an easier way to sort the image and video files by name or chronologically? Can a mutli-media clip library folder be created where image and video files can be placed, sorted by however, and then brought into the storyboard?

Thanks for your help.

Forgive me for saying so but if you have so many video clips and still images to put into one project that to individually put them in the right order will be a waste of time, how big will the final video be for goodness sake. It is easy to sort your clips into either date or name order in the library and then you can use Ctrl+A to select them all and import them into the timeline or storyboard in one go but surely that would be an enormous coincidence if they were in the exact position you want them in the final video! Also most if not all the clips would need some form of editing if only to remove the first and/or last few frames to take out the shaky ones when you press the start and stop buttons. That would be a good time to get the order right, I should think.
Most operations in video editing and authoring are very time consuming and sometimes frustrating but that's the nature of the beast. perhaps that's the challenge we enjoy but let's not get philosophical.

And why do you want to sort them while on the timeline?

I was thinking that often you change your mind and want to put one clip in front of another instead of after it, just so the final video portrays the story as you want it! That's what I mean by "sorting the order". What difference does it make what names the or dates the clips have is beyond me. I never give that a thought! To me it's the content of the clip that matters not the date it was shot or it's name!

Thank you all for your replies.

Regardless of what you want to do or what I want to do, is there a way to place a mixture of media clips into one location and mass sort them by name, for example? BTW, I am working with 300 image files and 30 short video files.

For instance, can a library folder be created that can contain a mixture of media clips (i.e., image files, video files) or do image files have to go into an image library folder and video files have to go into a video library file and then each respectively sorted there? I can't seem to figure this one out that is why I commented on trying to sort both types of files in the storyboard/timeline (as I once did using Creator many years ago).

Thanks again.

use windows explorer to sort them into the order you want in a folder of your choice.
Select all and drag onto timeline.

No not in VS.

What will be the total file size then? Seems an awful lot of content for one video. Are you sure your potential audience wont get bored. To look through 300 stills and 30 video clips in one go would be more than my attention span could deal with

But maybe if you explained your reasoning we could better understand and, therefore, give a better answer.

And as has been stated before, you can sort by name or date using the Library Manager in VS.

Sorting clips and stills in the timeline is called "editing" it takes time if you want it to look good.
