Silly me... it was simply the "Fit to screen" choice, doing a right-click on the preview window. When I do this while editing, it grossly over-expands the insert video so that it is stretched vertically. However, after rendering it looks perfect.
As I thought, the answer was simple. It was just that the over-sizing of the insert video during editing threw me off. If anyone wants to see the finished video, it's at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g96WrBTEXGY. Nothin' special... just a simple "how-to" video.
I appreciate all the suggestions... thanks!

Hmmm... sorry. I copy-and-pasted it again into my post above but it seemed to be the same URL. Here it is again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g96WrBTEXGY.
You can also find it by searching for my account on YouTube. My user name there is pvreditor. All my recent videos were shot with my Canon HF11 AVCHD camcorder and edited with (or at least passed through) VideoStudio Pro x2.
Thanks!

Hi Bob
Solved the link problem. You had a . after the Y in the link. There is no . in the URL. Delete the dot and it works. If you don't mind the suggestion, when you post a link on the forum, if you use preview before posting you can check that the link works. Then click Submit.
Of course on your video, you can't tell where the overlay track cuts in which says its working fine.
