Thank you for your reply I have a HP computer and am using a UK (JMB) video player and am trying to put old compact video cassettes onto DVD, there for would it be because of the capture software that it is black and white. Sorry I am not very good at this as this is my first attempt at doing this, Would I be better with some other capture device or software?
Regards Sharon

You still haven't given me much information regarding your particular HP Computer:
Please click here -->
so that we can then view your system specifications.
Is it a laptop, is it a desktop?
I use a TV card to get TV/VHS recordings into my computer.
You mention you have a UK (JMB) video player but what about the tapes?
Are they Region 2 (Europe) or are they Region 1 (U.S.A. / Japan)

I think the Grabster comes with its own capture software, and for the capture step, you're usually better-off using the software that's specially made to work with the hardware.
If it came with Movie Factory, it may have also come with some other capture software.
Once you have a file on your hard drive (hopefully in color), you should be able to use Movie Factory to make a DVD (hopefully).

You speak of region 2, so are we to assume this is a commercial video? If so it no doubt has copy protection on it which could be causing the black and white.
No legal way of solving this.
If you are just telling us you have recorded them yourself as a region 2 video, then it could be the type of connection. A std vhs will use composite connections, the std red/white/yellow, If you use an s-video connection this can cause black and white as the colour carrier is different in the two connections.

Yes they are old home movies taken on an old camcorder wgich I no longer have, so am capturing them via VHS player. On the Terratec there are 4 cables red, yellow and white also a S Video these are connected also to VHS player using an scart adapter am I using the wrong cables? Should I remove the S Video.
Again Thankyou to all for your help I am not very good at tech kind of things
Kind regards Sharon

Might be getting somewhere now, You are using RCA outputs to SVideo and then converting the SVideo to SCART. Whilst it probably is possible to do that, each change induces a possible place where the "error" could occur.
You can get a SCART to RCA lead - this will at least get rid of the SVideo aspect.

Is it this that you have?
http://www.terratec.net/en/products/Gra ... _2348.html
So scart from vhs player to red/white/yellow cables to grabster to usb into pc?
If so, have you tried capturing with the magix software they say is included?
Also, have you set the options in MF so that you set both UK as your region and PAL as the type of video to be used when you installed the software? It isn't clear that you need to do both.

Yes Graham That the is the Grabster I am using but MF 5 is included in the cd which came with it it not Magix.
In MF I can not ifnd where it sets my region as UK. I have also tried playing the VHS through my new DV camcorder which plays on the screen and captures on the PC but again only in black and white
Kind Regards Sharon

I'm not sure where you can go to reset the region and ntsc/PAL as I don't use MF. Hopefully someone else will chip in.
WHen you use your new dv camcorder, do you see the video in colour on the camcorder screen?
Where you capturing using MF then as well? Which ended in a B/W picture?
Try using movie maker to capture your movie via the camcorder, so long as you connect this by firewire to your pc.

Whereabouts in UK are you?
