DVD movie factory - latest and greatest???

Post by moe455 »

I have supported Ulead on most of their product but unfortunately there are always teething problems. I am continually getting lockups when editing movies with DVD movie factory 4. I thought I would eliminate most of the problems by rebuilding my PC with only ulead products unfortunately I am still getting lockups. Is my problem lack of RAM (512meg) or is it just that Ulead are waiting on customer feedback to correct their application problems. I believe that insufficient testing has been performed on the product in order to just get it out there.
Besides all my complaints I will persist as I really like the product.
I'll be patient.

flash startup screen

instad of using the flash startup screen, try going into the start/programs/ulead... menu, and run just the DVD Authoring application (or whatever other application you want).

Do you have any "packet writing" software installed? If so, try uninistalling it to see if it makes any difference (I didn't install the one that's included with DMF).

I'm afraid I agree. The product reeks of insufficient testing. I used to program full time, and if I released software like this I would justifiably be hauled over the coals. I vote for improved testing by Ulead.

You are so right. I have been using Ulead products since 1998. I think Ulead is trying to flood the market with as many products possible. See how Photoimpact jumps from 7 to 10. Photo Explorer 6(freeware) to 8.5, VideoStudio from 6 to 9 & MF 1 to 4 in just over 4 years. Their Support dept must be overwhelmed by now. That's why they came out with this new Web Board where they are not obliged to answer any queries. We have to do it ourselves.
Anybody agree?

I think we are all of the same opinion. Keep us informed of any tricks or experiences we can share.
Thanks guys for sharing my frustrations.

Some things work, some things don't, but there are generally workarounds. What do you expect from something that is cheaper than a dinner for two!!

Actually Ulead products are not too bad & they are real cheap when you compare with Adobe products but the way they ramp up their production lines to bring in so many new products at the same time is a bit too much. Are they having an internal competition to see which Department can produce more new things than others?
Is there a dedicated website/forum for MF & VS the way the PIRC do for Photoimpact?

Why do some people think that because Ulead products are cheap it's ok for them to be buggy? They should still do the job they were purchased for regardless of price. I have had MF 2, 3 and 4 at the moment 4 is useless, it just falls over with silly erros. Ulead are responding to my technical support questions - but wouldn't it be better to a: update an exiting product rather then keep bringing out new versions, and B: make sure it works!

Actually, I started using the trial version of DMF4 because Adobe and Pinnacle products were so buggy.

So far I'm finding DMF4 has more of the features I want and better video quality, and is much more stable.

The only bug I've seen so far (I've been using it for only a week) is the audio sync issue - by the end of a 2 hour video burned to DVD, the sound is a few seconds off of the video.

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I've found it only happens to me if I use the Normalize Audio feature. If I leave that off, the audio and video are in sync throughout the entire DVD!

And that's why I'm browsing the board - I was hoping to find a patch to fix that problem...

well its a mixed bag really, what works is very very good for the price, but there are some major issues.

the biggest i came across was the messing up of mpeg playback in wmp, luckily i knew how to fix it, but most wont...

for the £20 i paid for the upgrade to disc creator, im pretty happy, but ive yet to run into a problem that totally frustrates me.

torgo3k -- The trial version of DMF4 I downloaded yesterday seems to have fixed the audio sync problem I was having with DMF3, but it also seems to be badly lacking in the transition effects category. If I were to upgrade to the full version, would I get my wipe effect back that I use for slideshows?

rws,

I think that you should be able to transfer the contents of the MF3 templates directories to the corresponding MF4 directories and gain access from MF4

Tried that, John, but to no avail. It looks like the TBYB version of DMF4 has disabled most of the transition effects available in the full version.
