VideoStudio X2 - fails to load

Post by garywood84 »

I'm having a problem with VideoStudio X2. I've done a clean installation on a new copy of Windows 7. The installation didn't report any errors, but when I try to run the program, I get the followin error message:

"An Error Occurred While Update Layer Window."

VS appears on the task bar, but there doesn't seem to be a window associated with it. All I can do is close it down by right-clicking on it's taskbar entry and choosing close.

Please can anyone help me to fix this?

Many thanks,

Gary

It seems you have an old graphics card - there might be an answer here:

sjj1805,

Thanks for your reply. The graphics are on-board, but are not old - I only bought the netbook last week! The graphics are Intel GMA 950. Is there any way I can make this work?

(Just to be sure: I know a netbook isn't the most suitable computer to run this software, and it will take forever and a day to render the final edits. However, I want to be able to use the program infrequently when I'm away with my netbook, and intend to save the project files and then do the final render on my home computer when I get back.)

Thanks,

Gary

Sorry but.....
Netbooks are good at what they are intended for - a clue is in the name
NetBook - they are a small and not very powerful internet notebook.

Many of these netbooks do not have a traditional hard drive but some have a solid state hard drive, others have the equivalent of a memory stick.
many netbooks do not even have windows installed but instead a Linux System, often Ubuntu or alternatively Suse.

Like you I have a netbook and like you I looked for a system best fitting my needs, one with a Windows XP Operating System and a 120 GB hard drive.
It also sports an Intel Atom Duo core processor and 1 GB RAM.
I upgraded the pre-installed XP Home Edition to XP Professional. I would not entertain Vista or Windows 7 on my netbook, I have heard reports that a stripped down version of Windows 7 will run on a netbook but I am not prepared to spoil a perfectly running netbook.

Your Video card IS unfortunately old technology - netbooks will in fact work better with older technology because they are less demanding on RAM and the CPU.

Put simply, VideoStudio will not run on a netbook. Similarly many newer programs do not either, for my Photo Editing I had to install an older version of PhotoImpact because my netbook is not powerful enough for the current version X3.

Netbooks are great for travelling - smaller than a laptop and so does not take up much space in the suitcase when travelling abroad together with the luggage weight restrictions.

I use mine for keeping copies of novels in PDF format and also as a means of transferring my digital photographs at the end of each day whilst on holiday. This together with the fact I can connect to my email with an internet dongle makes it a wonderful addition to my arsenal of computer hardware.

... except that HP released on the same day as Win 7 10 days or so ago a new "Mini" range of netbooks which are a bit larger (11.6 inch screen), with a slightly faster Atom processor and 2 GB of RAM running Win 7. I know because I bought one that same day. And it comes with an NVidia ION graphics card which plays both AVCHD and HDV extremely well. I confess I haven't yet tried loading VS on it as I almost immediately had to leave for yet another overseas trip (I am writing this in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro). But I will report back if I have any luck... with the VS I mean!!!

Of course there is always the railway of progress with a train that never stops. whatever computer system you buy today will be out of date next week.

Not sure that a bigger screen is "progress" though - if it gets too big you might as well buy a Notebook (laptop) which kind of defeats the purpose of a Netbook - very small, light and portable.

... Yes, I agree, though this one is still quite small and light and still slips very easily into my leather briefcase...
