I have searched for an answer to this issue on Google and here but cant quit find the right answer. I searched for fade in/out. I can find the transition, but that is for two clips. It doesnt allow me to drop it on the beginning of one clip.
I have also looked through the tutorials and no luck.
Like my title says I am making a transition from Pinnacle to Corel VS Prox2. One of my favorite effects in Pinnacle is to fade in a clip from black or fade out. I can edit the length with ease.
I cant find this feature in VS. What is it called? If it is even in the software.
Thanks,
and one more question please.
I film depositions and would like to place either the time date stamp OR a counter on the clip. It helps the lawyer find certain locations on the DVD. Is this possible in VS? is there a plugin that might extract the date from the file?
I use a JVC Gz-hd30U with mpeg2 stream to the internal hard drive.
Thank you,
Gary

Video Studio - How to fade into the first video Clip or out of the last video clip
Time/Date stamps are normally a setting on your camcorder not from the Video Editing program. If you have already transferred the video to the hard drive then you might find DVDDate useful. Never used it myself so cannot comment further.

Another very handy thing for adding a time stamp, or frame counter is listed on the free download section here, http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... sc&start=0. It's about a third of the way down the page. Do a search for "timecode" on the page.
I have used this in Video Studio 8, 11.5+ as well as MediaStudio Pro 8. It seems like just the thing for depositions.

Steve, I have seen that link. It doesn't work on my version. Possibly due to that is a version 9 and I am a version 12. I could post my screen that does not have that possibility, but I hope you will take my word. The instructions on that link do not work in my install.
MY screen says "you can select a transition......drop between two tracks." That's the problem. I only have one track. I can drag all day long and it just gives me the crossed circle.
Rick, thanks. I d/l'd it and will give it a go.

To fade in a clip from black, go to the Color library and drag a black color clip to the timeline, placing it in front of your video clip. Now go to the
Transition library and drag a transition to the timeline, between the black and video clips.
If you are using X2 you can also simply drag the video clip to the left, overlapping the black clip. The transition that you have designated in Preferences will be automatically placed between the two.
Of course, fading out to black will require you to place a black color clip to the right of your video clip and adding a transition.

HA!. Funny. I was just experimenting with adding a black picture file that I have on hand to blend fades and help transitions between scenes.
I did just as you suggested. Dropped the pic in front, then dropped a transition in between. I need to experiment a bit more but that will work. An extra step that I didn't have to do before in Pinnacle but its worth it to be able to use a time-code stamp. BTW I tried that and it works great.
Thanks again. I am sure its just a matter of finding out how to do a different procedure in VS to get the same results.
edit:
Ahh, after looking at that first link again I see that one must drop the color square in first, then a cross-fade. There was no writing for the color square drop in. I see how the first link works now Steve. Thank you.
