JPEG problem on ProX2

Post by Soccadoc »

I am working on a highlight DVD of JPEG's and MPEG 2's from this recent soccer season. I process my JPEGS in Adobe Photoshop CS 2. I recently purchased Pro X2- had used Ulead 11 last year for the same project successfully. ProX2 does not seem to recognize my JPEG's when I try to drag them to the video timeline. The file shows there but does not appear in the Preview window. File properties says the file is a JPEG and is readable. The original file, directly out of the camera, does show up on the timeline when placed there, but are not cropped etc. JPEGs are 300pixels per. MPEG's are working fine. I have to have this project done in the next two weeks and would appreciate some quick help. I have searched the FAQ and search section and haven't seen a similar problem. Help ! Thanks. Soccadoc

Jepgs have several compression methods, it's possible the one you are using from photoshop is making the file unreadable by VS.
I prefer to use tif's as it retains quality, is pretty much trouble free and you can batch convert all your edited jpegs to tif quite easily in photoshop.

Thanks and a final request

Graham- Thanks for the suggestion. I converted one of my jpegs to a TIFF and it does show well in the preview box. I looked for an easy to way to batch convert my pictures in CS2- there will be a couple of hundred of them- and didn't seem to find the way to do it. If it's not too much trouble, could you tell me the quick way to do it ? Thanks again. Soccadoc

JPEG compression

Post by Soccadoc »

Graham- one other question. When I save the JPEG to a TIFF file it asks me about compression. The uncompressed TIFF files are very large 28MB vs 5MB (JPEG Compressed) which will obviously effect the number of pictures I can put on a single DVD (with video). Any suggestions ? Soccadoc

I may be wrong but I seem to remember having to change those Jpegs to 8bit for them to be accepted in VSx2, or am I thinking of something else?

Soccadoc, no matter how bit those stills are they will be rendered into video of the settings you choose.

And your operating system is --> Image?????

I have no problems using Photoshop CS JPG images with VideoStudio.
You haven't by any chance saved them as JPG 2000 format have you?

Hi

There was a problem with using Jpegs with progressive coding mode..
Check the image properties do they indicate Baseline or Progressive.
(right click image in timeline-select properties- Jpeg tab)
Not saying its your problem but worth a look.....

Otherwise you could try ¡¥Bmp type images¡¦ a little smaller than Tiff

Adobe Photoshop--Batch Convert
You may be best to read the help files but basically you.............

first create an ¡¥Action¡¦ to resave the image as Tiff or bmp or Jpeg with baseline.
Batch convert, From File¡XAutomate¡XBatch¡Xselect the action.

OR create a ¡¥Droplet¡¦ from the action.
Use the droplet on a folder containing the images to resave all.
Photoshop will start to run the action on all images in the folder.

Or the easy way. Use the free program Irfanview. That will convert from and to a multitude of formats. You can even have a mix of formats to convert. Very quick and accurate.

Quite the international panel I have advising me- UK, Aussies etc. Thanks to all. My operating system is Vista. Tried resaving my images as baseline instead of progressive and it works just fine. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I hopefully won't need any more advice along the way. I'm in Ohio, by the way. Soccadoc
