Upgrade from Vs10 Plus to Vs Pro x2. Fails to launch.

Post by G-dad »

I downloaded/installed the upgrade software from Corel a few days ago. Would not launch. Error message about screen resolution being too low. Mine is higher than the spec required. Contacted Corel Tech support. On their advice I updated my graphics card drivers. Monitor driver was up to date.

Corel said that they could not help...that it was a hardware issue...graphics card not communicating with monitor?

I am new to message board, so don't know if I am conducting myself in the appropriate manner. I could not find a specific place to introduce myself.

Would much appreciate help with my upgrade problem. I am not a computer tech person, just self taught.

Welcome to the forums,

First I moved your post to the VS forum, since that is what you're having problems with. The introduction is for those that may not have a specific issue, and need to get that first post, they can just say "hi, I'm new here"..:)

VS has always had the minimum screen resolution of 1024 X 768. Some of the newer resolutions may provide higher options. What trips the program is that one or the other of the dimensions fall below the minimum. For example, my desktop monitor can use the resolution of 1280 x 720. VS will see the 720 as not meeting the minimum, and refuse to launch. I think this is silly, because it is actually a better resolution than the older 1024 x 768.

So using your Graphics card software, or what's provided in Windows, to see if there is a setting that would allow VS to work. My Desktop uses 1440 x 900 and my laptop uses 1280 x 800.

Thank you for your reply.
I have tried all of the screen resolutions available on my monitor, an LG 20" LCD L204WT. These are 1680x1050, 1280x1024, 1280x960,1280x768, 1152x864, 1024x768 (the one they recommend) and 800x600. I used the control panel:adjust screen resolution.
None of these worked. Each time I got the same error message 15034:1:1 Screen resolution too small. :(
I have not uninstalled VS10 Plus. Might this be an issue? I am afraid of losing my project files if I do so.

I don't know how to access my graphics card software, or if I still need to having used the windows route.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

Where do you store them now then?

Your project files are not stored in VS, but in the working folder you designate.

When I click on 'properties' for one of my projects it lists the location as E/, which is my second hard drive. Each project has a folder there. :D

Will they remain there id I have to uninstall VS10 Plus?

Yes they will but for your peace of mind...create a folder in the E: Drive called VS Projects and make a copy in there.

No... see my signature block below!
Try running the Windows Updates from Microsoft - you might find it updates your video card software.

VS Pro x2 upgrade fails to initialise.

Thank you for your advice. Is the video card the same hardware as my graphics card? If so, I have already updated the drivers for this with no beneficial result. :(

I have my system set to update (Windows?) each day.

I remain baffled!!!

Ok, try updating DirectX, a link to it is found in a announcement at the top of this forum. It seems to correct a number of issues that find their way into VS. DirectX is not part of the Windows automated update, you must download and install it manually.

Here's a bit of a long shot but worth a try. Go to the Vista equivilent of Control Panel to go to Add/Remove programs and select the new VS program. Click on Change/Remove and when the dialogue opens choose REPAIR. Follow the screen and see if that helps.

Thanks, Vidoman and Michelle.

I downloaded and 'ran' dxwebsetup.exe, version 9.27.1734. Was that the correct file? VS is still not initialising...same error message!

When I go to install uninstall and click on VS, there is no option to 'repair', only to 'completely remove'.

Any more suggestions? :(

Hi G-dad
Perhaps you can't see the repair option as you downloaded the update. I guess to repair you would need to put the installation disc in sometime. Could you have ordered a disc when you upgraded?

Thanks John....apologies for misreading your name!

I got this upgrade download when screen popped up as I was using my original version of VS. I don't think Corel were offering the disc, but I suppose I could ask them for one!

Any additional help appreciated.

Worth trying to gett one otherwise how will you re-install if you need to?
Edit
Have just checked the website and it appears that you could have bought the upgrade in a box to be posted to you. This would have contained a disc. Did you save the downloaded zip file when you upgraded. If so put this on a disc so you have it for the future and make a note of the licenece number.
