All pictures showing up as file type PV85.image

Post by ZoneIII »

I had to reinstall my OS. I use Ulead to burn DVD and CDs. I had to reinstall my entire Ulead suite of programs because it does not have the option to pick which programs to load. It's all or none. I then uninstalled everything that came in the suite of programs except DVD MovieFactory because I don't need the other programs. Now all my pictures are showing up with a file type of "PV85.Image". I am a professional photographer so this is a problem. An Internet search showed very little on this subject except that the problem has something to do with one of the programs in the Ulead suite and it was probably caused by Photo Explorer. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to fix this problem. I uninistalled all DVD MovieFactory programs but the problem persists. The files themselves are still in their original formats (jpeg, TIFF, etc.) but they show up in PV85.Image format (whatever that is) and I can't do anything with them. I can't work with them in Photoshop, etc. I know that they are still actually in their original format because when I open my backups on external drives, which I know have not been altered, they too show up as PV85.Image(s). I would greatly appreciate any help with this because it's going to hurt my business.

Unfortuantely, that's one of the things I tried before posting here. I try all the "normal" things before posting a question.

The problem is that once the Photo Explorere 8.5 is unistalled, my sytem recognizes all my pictures as being in PV85.Image format. Even when I clean the registers and do a system restore, they still show up that way. After trying many things, I finally found that the only way I can get my pictures to be recognized by my system in their proper format, I have to install Photo Explore and leave it on my PC. That's odd because I just loaded the suite up on another PC I have last week and then deleted all the programs that I don't want and that machine isn't having this problem. But I do remember having this or a similar problem years ago. I just can't remember how I fixed it. I guess I'll just have to leave the application on my PC. The Installation disc does not allow you to choose which programs you want to install. Whether you tell it to install everything or to install manually, it automatically installs everything. Then you have to uninstall the ones you don't want. Poor design! the programs in the Suite are DVD Movie Factory, Ulead VideoStudio, Photo Explorer, Burn Now, DVD Player, and Nova Backup. I can uninstall all of the stuff I don't want except Photo Explorer. That's the culprit and an Internet search came up with other people who had the same problem but they didn't explain how the fixed it well and it was in old forums.

This is real strange, as I've never seen this sort of image renaming caused by Photo Explorer. I've had it on my XP machine for several years. However when I install editing software, I do not allow it to associate any file types except it's own proprietary formats.

Yes, it is strange. However, I learned that others have experienced the same problem with this product. Unfortunately, I couldn't find complete information about how to fix it. Others had to manually change various registers but I couldn't find complete details about doing that. I did change two registers that others changed but that didn't help and it's clear that there was more to the repair procedure.

I do vaguely remember having this or a similar problem in the past - probably after I reformatted my drive. The unusual file-type stuck in my memory.

My hard drive crashed last week and I replaced it and did OS reinstall and it took about 12 hours to get all application installed, settings made, etc. I do not want to have to go through that again. I really would just like to uninstall this program and then find a way to fix the problem. It looks like I will just have to leave the program installed - which really isn't a problem but I would like to get this troublesome software off my machine.

BTW, Corel has been less than absolutely useless as far as support goes. I found their so-called "support" to be a joke. I had heard their TS was terrible but this is the first time I experienced it for myself.
