I know a few folks on this board have or are having trouble with the upgrade from VS8 to VS9. Chances are that you're trying to upgrade a trial version of VS8 for which you later purchased a license. Unfortunately, even after licensing, the application is still "flagged" (for lack of a better term) as a trial version, and the VS9 upgrade (or any VS8 patches for that matter) won't install.
I had this problem, and the solution was pretty simple. I was a bit nervous about dealing with Ulead tech support after reading some of the threads here, but I called their Cust Svc line (310-896-6391) this morning, and talked to a tech after a short time on hold (10 min or less). He looked up my account information, and then e-mailed me a FTP link to the full version of VS9. Unfortunately, I didn't receive the first email, so I called back a couple of hours later. Was able to talk to the tech right away. He emailed the link again, and I received it the second time. Downloaded the app, installed it, and everything's working fine.
I have to say that I'm pleased with this tech support experience at least, although I don't understand why the Ulead licensing process doesn't change the app from a trial to a full version.
Here's hoping VS9 works as well (or better) than VS8 did for me.

Well thats news to me - didn't think you could download a trial version and then just pay for it to be upgraded to a full version - surely you have to pay for and download a complete new full installation. If what you say is true then after you paid for the 'full' version you would still have to download the 'Extra content' file, so was the new download you have just done to solve your problem the programme file or the 'extra content' file ??

Yes, you can license a trial version, which is what I did with VS8, and that was the reason I couldn't do the upgrade to VS9. The mistake I made was not downloading the "full" version of VS8 that was probably offered at the time I licensed it. If I had done that, I would't have had this problem. I don't recall any "extra content" with VS8.
The VS9 file I downloaded was the "full" version. I haven't downloaded the "extra content" yet.
