Symbols in title

Post by michandjohn »

I want to create a block of text that slowly opens (as though it's being written) against a black background. I've been doing this in the "title" line. Is this correct method? It works, but how do I get symbols in? eg the envelope in Windings? These convert to standard keyboard characters unless I insert the text first as Windings and then retype the "non-windings bits in the other font. (using Videostudio pro x2)
Thanks

Not exactly sure what you are after but have you thought of using a black
background, the text and a cross fade transitition so that the text appears as the transistion fades across the text?................Ken

Ken,
Many thanks. The bit about how to do the text is not an issue. My question relates to the second part of the post i.e. how fonts are dealt with. I'm just checking that my process is the best this program can do.
it's just that it seems fairly "clunky". ta

If you want to enter symbols in your titles then use the Windows "Character Map" facility found at All Progs, Asseccories, Character Map.

Thanks Mitchell,
Yep, I know where fonts and characters are - but thanks anyway :) The issue for me was that it was easier in my context to type and edit in Word and paste into Video studio. What happens is that if you have a mix of fonts in Word, when you paste into VS it changes them to a single font. I can see that this is simply how VS works. No worries

mix of fonts in Word
I believe that is how VS worrks as you say but I would recommend not using Word to copy and paste into VS. When you C and P from Word you carry over a lot of Word formatting. Much better to us a text only prog. like Notepad. I learnt this the hardway by trying to import word text into a website. Every browser I tried to view it showed the weirdest results. I now only use Notepad and get no probs. I know you can save a Word doc as a text file but I still had problems with the.
Of course if you want title styles that VS doesnt offer you can always use a third party prog like Xara and import as a graphic.
Don't forget that you can do a huge amount of text editing in VS even have different fonts at different sizes and colors in the same line if you wish. So you could have a big fancy ampersand in between two plain words
