Trying to add sound file to 13 gig video avi file

Post by Doug2006 »

I have a vid file and it is in avi format. It says avi uncompressed. It is an hour long and 13 gigs. I have the sound file that belongs with it. Here is what happened the first time I did this. I put the sound on the time line and made a new file by going to share same as project. It worked fine and I am not sure how long it took. Unfortunately I put the wrong sound file with it so it is no good. Now a couple of weeks later I want to put the right sound file with it. This time it seems that Vs forgets it worked on this stuff and when I put the video file in the time line it doesn't ask change project properties and when I go to share and same as project it starts to do the task but after 45 minutes it is at 1 % . It seems that some times Vs uses smart render and sometimes it doesn't. I tried changing project properties but I am afraid that if you don't hit it exactly right vs will render the whole thing again.

All I want to do now is take 18 clips out of this video file and have the sound with them. I can align the sound at the beginning because I have a marker, but I don't want to try and align the sound 18 times. I tried cutting the clip with the scissors but it looks like it will not include the sound with the cut part.

Is my only choice rendering the whole thing again and is that going to affect video quality? The bottom line is I have a video file and an audio file and I want them to be together so I can cut out segments I want to have. Is there any way to do that on the time line? Extracting the video and audio aligned together? Doug

Taking an educated guess I would think you are dealing with DV (Digital Video).

To get VideoStudio to ask if you want to change the project properties, BEFORE inserting anything on the time line go to
File | Preferences.
Then on the [General] Tab make sure that there is a tick in the box
"Show message when inserting first video clip into the time line"

Because the video and the new audio are separate items you cannot cut the sound and the video as one grouped item.
