Canon HG10 and difficulty making quality DVD (disc or files)

Post by Charade »

Movie Factory 5.6 SE is the program that came with my camera. I'm having a difficult time making quality DVDs from the HD output from this camera. The problem I have is either interlace artifacts or progressive motion blur. I can't seem to get the sharpness I see (aside from the motion blur) when I convert the HD file (AVCHD interlaced) to progressive or the interlace (and some compression) artifacts when I output an interlaced MPEG file (or straight to DVD). I've tried the program that came with it along with Studio X2 (trial) or MF 7 (MF 6 doesn't support AVCHD). I've tried many other programs like Studio and just plain converters.

My DVD player is progressive as is the Sony HD monitor (10 years old so no ASTC tuner).

When I view the original file on my PC (with WMP that comes with Win 7) it looks great as does playing the file directly from the camera to the TV (via component cables).

What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
