Adding a special effect using VS11.5

Post by Macadoon »

HI all,
I'm editing a short film at the mo, shot on a Sony HDRSR1e in 1440x1080 avchd. I'm wanting to add a single muzzle flash for a pistol directly into the avchd clip if possible. Can creat this and add it to the shot in in VS11.5?
I'll be burning the film to a 4.7g disc in avchd. THat said, i can do this effect in other special effects software, but only to mpeg2 hd, hdv and avi. The clip is aobut 5 seconds long ... will any of those other formats look significantly different on screen to that shot and edited in avchd?

It doesn't really matter what format the bits and pieces of your project are. You can have avchd, dv-avi, or mpeg-2 video clips, MP3 or wav audio files, jpeg or bmp photos, etc. At the end of the day these will all be rendered to a particular file type for viewing, whether it be DVD, YouTube, etc.

If you render your effect to a MPEG-2 file it may look significantly different than your AVCHD file because you are comparing SD to HD. If HDV is the only HD option to render to I would go that route, as you will then be comparing HD to HD.
