Hi, I have just spent several days putting a project together. Mainly still images with some digital video.
When I rendered the project (pal 16_9 frame based also tried lower first) the result is far from acceptable. It looks like a low res picture although I rendered with high quality settings (the same ones I have used many times before) Straight lines seem to have a slight saw tooth effect. If I utilize an overlay the problem is suddenly much more pronounced. Wether this is caused by the overlay itself or the fact that the images are enlarged slightly I don't know.
The video clips from my digital video camera seem to be ok, the problem being mainly with the still images.
By the way the same images created as a slide show in movie factory are perfect.
I have a fast computer with vista installed and had excellent results earlier in the year with another sinilar project.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Many thanks

I'd say it is most likely down to the enlarging of the picture. What size is the original?clemolo wrote:or the fact that the images are enlarged slightly I don't know.

Typical size of pics 3872 x 2592. I have used the same size photos in other projects in the past without problems. When I stated slightly enlarged, I meant only that the pics inserted on the overlay and stretched to fit the tv safe frame. I will update directx and post the results. I hadn't thought of that.

You must remember that VideoStudio is a video editor and not an image editor. Best results are achieved by resizing stills beforehand with an image editor.

Re: distorted images after rendering in pro x2
I urgently need help for the same issue of a saw tooth effect. I use VSX5 Ultimate Ed and made a project which I rendered into both DVD and Bluray. I include snippet showing how bad the saw tooth effect on images (and even with video overlays) is with the DVD overlays. It is much better with the BD but I can bare with that.
The problem came from VS X4. I've used different cameras over this time (Sony A 200, Canon 7D and currently a Canon 5D MkII). I never reduce my image sizes as this was not a problem with earlier versions (also see comment above from the person that says it does not happen with Movie Factory).
I also see the remark that VS is a Video editor and not meant for images. As I see it VS caters for both and make provision to use both. I always mix my video with images on overlays. (The problem is that the video quality has the same problem but not to the same extend).
I took the link above for what size images must be, but did not find any answers there.
Believe me I'm not going to sit down and wait for answers I will definately read further its just a matter of time. I will batch resize my images if that willl help but it takes another 2 and a half hours to render the DVD and I don't want to waste the time if it will make no difference.
At this stage I cannot give this product to my client I have to do 150 copies.
Hope someone has answers for me.
See attached snippets that I made from the DVD and BD. I don't know if the attachment will show it clearly.
Thanks
Luna

Re: distorted images after rendering in pro x2
you are right in that VideoStudio can handle images and video and many of us like you make videos which are a combination of stills and videos.
i think the point Steve is making is that VideoStudio does not actually edit the still images and presents what it is given.
Far more important than the actual image size is the image aspect ratio - when you put photos into VS they are pulled into the format of your project 4:3 or 16:9 so I always crop my images to a format rather than an actual pixel dimension - for instance if my images are 3200 x 2000 pixels I would crop them first to 3200 x 1800 (16:9) before inserting them into a 16:9 project - that way the images are not distorted /stretched to fit the video format. I never normally reduce the image size putting as near full image size as possible in the timeline - just make sure they are in the right screen format.

Re: distorted images after rendering in pro x2
Hi
Strange that still images have suffered from interlacing
The image you provided is two in one, am I right in thinking that one is a video and the other an image?
It is probably that the HD video used Frame Based where as DVD generally uses interlacing, VS 5 will use Upper Field. DVD Movie Factory may have used frame based.
Check the properties of your individual video files.
Try using Share Create Video File DVD for Slide Show, which will use frame based.
