Can't disable "Preserve Base Image" in PhotoImpact

Post by rock jock »

Two questions:

1) I hit the F5 key and nothing. Restarted the program several times - that doesn't help.

2) What I am trying to do is move a selection from a photo. I used the Magic Wand tool which created a dashed line around the object in the picture and also a dashed line around the whole picture (the object ia separate color from the background). However, I can't seem to move the object in the picture to a separate file. The best I can do when I "copy" is copy both sets of the dashed lines onto another file. How can I separate one set of dashed lines from another? Or better yet, moce the object in the picture w/o moving the background also?

Thanks much.

Use the Layer manager in PI, you should find it on the right hand side of your display. All selected layers, or "Objects" as they are called in PI are highlighted. Just click on the object you want to select it, no other object or the base image should be selected, and copy it (Cntrl+C). you can paste it as new image or object.

On the menu bar, select "Selection" and click on "Preserve Base Image" to toggle the option on or off. If it is off and you click twice, it will be off again.

Hope that fixed your problem. If you want to succeed in using PI, I would suggest you do the free PI beginners workshop here (http://www.pircnet.com/). It costs you nothing but you will learn the basics of using this program and more.
